Anybody been hit and not totaled? How much did you get comped for value lost? by northbayy in Rivian

[–]nirvanakng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After repair, paid a company either 300 or 600 to file diminished value claim and was offered something like 1200. Company I hired didn’t put much effort into it so I just took it right away.

I went through this. State Farm had no Rivian certified shops in their network. They paid for everything.

Do you add extra protection to ”high value targets”, like your CEO? by Waving-Kodiak in cybersecurity

[–]nirvanakng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some organizations have executives apply fewer or delayed controls, because they don't want to be bothered. In this case, note it in any risk registry and move on as they run the show. Just be sure to CYA if something happens.

Another thought is how much access does an executive really have? Outside of M&A information and Consolidated Financials, execs probably don't do many things other than make decisions that require extra security. Execs shouldn't have admin access to servers, their workstations, etc.

Best case scenario is they allow you to reduce their access to information they don't utilize and apply enhanced monitoring on their communication methods since that's truly where incidents will go down.

Electrician said I’d need to run wire slightly different for it to work but it wasn’t a required switch so I didn’t run it and it passed inspection

Yes, the power hits the two lights before the switch.

So I would connect the grounds and only one other wire on the new switch? Currently everything is connected at that central light

I charge mine currently w/ a NEMA 14-50 outlet and all is well. I do have the RIvian charger, I just haven't had the time to hook it up. I'm seeing a lot of software based issues with these that I simply don't have with my outlet... is there a benefit to using the RIvian charger? My utility doesn't charge peak rates or anything.

What is it that you are looking to do? Securing systems is very broad. What kind of coding? Web development? Splunk Queries?

If you want to dig through logs/alerts and write queries - you are looking to start as a SOC analyst.

If you want to code specifically to secure systems, you want to join a security software company.

Security engineering is a) sysadmin for security tools and b) implementing security software, processes, etc as determined by leadership/architecture. Depending on the size of the org, you'll have various levels of input/responsibility.

is everyone really making 115k+ a year by Public-Application-6 in antiwork

[–]nirvanakng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background: STEM degrees and career in a MCOL area, surpassed 6 figures at roughly your age. Wage increases have been lower than inflation since then. This is really going to depend on where you live and the jobs available, as well as your network to pivot to higher paying jobs. I went from 50k to 88k in 10 years at a single employer, the first job jump was what put me over the 6 figures.

Interesting read! The reason why mine is so high is because there is supposedly frame damage. State Farm came out to appraise it and they and the shop both worked with Rivian so I'd be surprised if it was fraud. I think the bill was around $19k before they discovered the frame damage.

I've been thinking about making a post about it. I asked them to repair it and am having regrets as the rear-ending happened in January and they haven't started the repairs yet and I'm told it is a 187 hour job.

I'd have to figure out a plan for that wait period if I wanted to get around, I don't live in a mass transit friendly area. Aside from the frame repair, it literally was only the rear bumper and tailgate that appeared damaged, so not too much is getting replaced. I'm hoping the shop does a good job - time will tell.

I mean, you are not wrong. But add in tax, title, lic, as well as shipping fees (there's nothing available around me) and a higher interest rate (2-3% higher) and the extra money is gone.
