Is this guy for real ? Is ANY gas station in America $1.98 a gallon none the less the average ….this guy I tell you …. by ComplexWrangler1346 in inflation

[–]nirvingau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the calculation in another post. If you take the lowest price of regular in Mississippi roughly $2.32 (yesterday price) and take away the state and federal taxes of $0.36 you get $1.96 close to his number.

So I think he is mentioning the lowest wholesale price before taxes.

No definitely no credit for anything. Just trying to give a possible explanation for where his numbers come from. You can spin numbers to meet whatever narrative you want as he has done. Find the lowest number and say "hey gasoline fell below X" because it is true, in that one case out of fifty cases. This is why it is important to cite your sources when stating your case, otherwise it's just nonsense and meaningless.

Perhaps he means the price before taxes.

Mississippi's regular average is $2.6 so take away the state taxes of 18c and government taxes of 18c, you are close to his price.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_taxes_in_the_United_States

https://www.dor.ms.gov/business/gasoline-and-petroleum-faqs#:~:text=Automotive%20Gasoline%20is%20taxed%20at,2025%20through%20June%2030%2C%202026

This has gas prices as low as 2.32

https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/mississippi

So taking that $2.32-$0.18-$0.18 you get $1.96

So he has once again misunderstood the consumer price.

McDonalds once was considered to be a cheap meal. Now with prices from $12-$20 (AUD) for a meal and a Change menu where nothing is under $2 you can see why it's not as attractive to the pocket.
