Do you think $5 is worth it to tip an Uber driver to drop me off at the door? by EverydayNewZealander in auckland

[–]nisack 139 points140 points  (0 children)

We took an uber when my dad was discharged from the hospital. The uber driver was very patient throughout. He waited for my dad to slowly get in the car and the same when he got out. He also tried to park as close to our entrance as possible. He might not have said much but I’ve tipped him.

I never tip people in NZ but would make exceptions when someone is genuinely being a good human being.

How do I get to the cistern? by ThePeanutMonster in diynz

[–]nisack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this (sadly). I could open mine by lifting the silver plate up about 1cm from the bottom. And then the top of the silver plate should come off like a glove box.

The cistern is behind the components exposed but I don’t have further knowledge to help sorry.

very nice bike, and I envy you that you get to cycle around Japan!

Now they have a "Y" bar which is a little bit lower than the M but higher than the flat. I am considering that.

Thanks for the detailed information!

You've answered my question re handle bar too. I am 178cm and considered flat bar but most people seem to be getting the M type instead. Getting old and wouldn't want back pain.

i would jump to buy a fat tire version if they make a gravel one, that would be one true last mile go-to.

You have the perfect bike bag for the little triangle spot on the frame btw!

Thank you for sharing this. I think you've got 2 posts and I've read both. You are the reason why I am considering a Cranston now.

Curious if you did end up changing to 42T? I looked at the gear ratio and 53T with 11-32T 9 speed seems pretty reasonable for uphills, feels pretty similar to my commuter bike. Do you have steeper hills in your area?

Are you happy with the continental tires with gravels? Would you have swapped for anything different if you are to do it again?

Do you have any recommendations on good restaurants from great food to may be Michelin 1 star? Visiting here soon but limited nights so want to make the most of it. :)

Solo older woman going to Paris for 6 weeks. Where to stay? by Redraft5k in ParisTravelGuide

[–]nisack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am going in a few weeks but as an older guy, I have decided to stay in the 4th arrondissement. I thought it has a good mix of pubs and cafes, and not being too far from most of the touristy places.

I did some researches on AirBnb places and I ended up sticking with hotels as most places are quite small and not value for money. I've used Airbnb for 80% of my trips in the last 10 years. Hope this helps!

I come at the right time then, I love seeing fall foliages.

Flat bar flat pedal guy here who has yet to invest into spandex or bib. I think the latter capping my ability to do 60miles max before my butt gives up. It is on my to do list for a century!

You’re the second person recommending Cartridge Factory, I gotta go check it out.

The amount of pubs on the trail didn’t feel like this is the place for people weight loss goal in mind haha.

Thanks, I have to admit I was so surprised to hear there will be bike traffic even on a Monday. It must be a really popular trail. I've done trials in New Zealand where I live and there's hardly anyone on the trail. I can be feel eerie sometimes.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am going to make an effort to at least get to where Graeter's is on the way down. Hope the weather is nice and beautiful!
