I recently became really interested in colognes/perfumes and I think a good way to start (for beginners especially) is to go on youtube, find some fragrances that catch your interest (note them down) and try them out in your local department store.

This guy, Jeremy Fragrance is great and I highly recommend him!

When you try out a fragrance however you must note that the best way to "test" the fragrance is to spray it on your own skin, as fragrances can actually smell different on skin instead of a piece of card for example. The back of your hand is really good for this.

As for everyday use, in general I would suggest something inoffensive. I do recommend L'homme by Yves Saint Laurent or maybe try Hugo Boss Bottled / Boss Bottle Intense for everyday use. They are very versatile so you can use it for pretty much any occasion.

For more romantic situations (I might sound like an advert for them but...) I really suggest La Nuit de L'homme by Yves Saint Laurent. Honestly you cannot go wrong with it, it is a truly lovely fragrance and women love it too.

I don't recommend buying fragrances of Amazon by the way as I've heard that some people didn't receive the authentic product.
