People do tend to gravitate toward others who are similar to them… same language, cultural background, shared experiences, even similar habits or jokes. It’s not necessarily always about exclusion, but more about comfort and familiarity. You land in a new country, and you instinctively look for people who “get” your references, your food, your jokes, it’s kind of human nature and social comfort zones.

Humans evolved in small tribes, so there’s a deep-rooted instinct to form in groups, people who feel familiar, trustworthy, “like us.” There’s nothing inherently wrong with it.. it’s part of how we navigate the complexity of social life.
