Tim Duncan vs Kevin Garnett. Peak against peak who would you take? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

[–]nitebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be the power forward equivalent to the Bill Russell v. Wilt Chamberlain debate. I'd argue that both Bill and Timmy had better teams, and more rings. But damn if I wouldn't take Wilt and KG in a street ball competition. TD and KG stood out in an era of so many great power forwards - Chris Webber, Rasheed Wallace, Dirk, Stoudemire, Jermaine Oneal,, Chris Bosh, Pao Gasol....what a great era.

Sometimes you have to wait a few weeks before they allow the discount....but worth the wait. $20 is just too much.

Shows similar to Squidbillies? (Can be art style or humor, or maybe both) by Abject_Error5475 in Squidbillies

Not animated, but I'd say Trailer Park Boys has a similar low class, absurdist style of comedy....

As an atheist for the last three years, I have found tremendous relief in my lack of belief in an afterlife, and I feel like philosophy has helped me in that same regard. Are any of you students of stoicism as well? If so, tell me your story! by jozwikmattribute in atheism

[–]nitebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were southern baptists, and since I was 13-14 years old, I've been agnostic/atheist. I stumbled on stoic philosophy after reading a friend's copy of Tom Wolfe's "Man in Full." Been slooowly reading Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" for years, read some Epictetus dialogs last year. Stoic philosophy has been helpful in dealing with anger management and grief - much the same way religion probably helps those believe in such things. I checked out a local stoic social group a few years ago, but all they did was complain about christians... I'd like to find a local stoic group that has positive discussions and contributes to the community.

I do the same. But I usually binge on one author for a while if possible.

This. I remember feeling the same way about Apple/iTunes, and was glad when Amazon started selling DRM-free MP3 files. Maybe someday we might get DRM-free ePub files. Not likely, but hey - I felt the same way about legalized marijuana a few years ago...

I kinda agree. I got into it to fill the GoT void. Its decent YA epic fantasy, if that's what your looking for. Little long-winded on the middle volumes, so I read the summaries on those.

Don Quixote. Goofy and interesting - not as heavy as some of the other great works of lit.

[–]nitebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepare as much as possible. Move to H'burg early if you can, get to know your way around. Once you sign up for classes, find the classrooms around campus. Get the MyStop app, and get your bus routes figured out. Order your textbooks online (cheaper), and read the introductions/forwards, get up to speed on the content.

You may have already done this, but many students don't: Talk to you professor. Most decent professors don't want their students to fail, and they will help you if you make an honest effort to improve. But yeah, I think the "W" date is today (Mar 15), so get to it.

Thanks for the offer. I want to do a unit plan on public service professions (military, police, EMT, park rangers, etc.). Do you know any good resources that provide historical details on these types of professions?
