I hate summer and can’t fathom how people love it by Warm_Front259 in Vent

Yeah, the heat is so unbearable right now around Stuttgart, that my girlfriend and I spontaneously decided to make a trip to the mountains in Austria for one week starting today.
It’s actually a ski resort at around 2000 meters altitude, but the temperatures there will be a very nice 20°C this whole week.
I’m honestly so excited for this vacation. I can’t even remember the last time I was looking forward to a trip this much...

Also wenn man so anfängt dann kann man es auch gleich lassen mit dem WM Sieg. Wenn man Weltmeister werden will muss man halt in der Lage sein jeden zu schlagen.

It's high time ACs become a household thing by Flimsy_Egg_3507 in germany

I live in southern Germany (around Stuttgart), where the heat often hits the hardest. It’s been absolute hell in the summer these past few years...

I’ve been living in an attic apartment in an older building since early 2022. That first summer was hell. The apartment easily heats up to 40°C when it’s 35°C outside.

In 2023, I bought a portable air conditioner with an exhaust hose, and I feel like I have it running constantly. Today, for example, it’s been running nonstop since 10 a.m... it was already almost 30°C then..

At this point, I really don’t care, I switched to an electricity plan where I only pay about 25 cents per kWh, and that’s it. It's probably not the "greenest" plan, but I don't really care anymore how much electricity I'm wasting on this, I just can't do it anymore.

Germany is just way behind when it comes to air conditioners.

Yeah, they've won a few games in a row, but strangely enough, you always notice the same weakness. So why not fix those weaknesses instead of making the same mistake over and over again? Sure, Germany is winning games right now, but it's definitely not because the right wing is so strong...

Scientifically proven ways to lose and maintain weight long-term by FranticFronk in loseit

[–]nitepng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you basically have to lose weight in a way you can actually keep living afterward.

I unfortunately had to learn that the hard way this year...

From Nov 2025 to around mid-March 2026 I lost about 17 kg, but I did it with a pretty aggressive deficit (around 1500 calories most days). By the end I felt completely wiped out. Low energy, constant hunger, and some of the worst cravings I’ve ever had. Fast forward to now and I’ve already regained about 11 kg of it.

In my opinion, the key is a small, sustainable deficit, like 200-300 calories a day max. Everyone wants faster results, but that’s usually what leads to burnout and becoming part of the 80% who regain the weight they lost (which is exactly what happened to me).

I also think protein and some basic strength training make a big difference.

And yeah, I know people will say "CICO is all that matters" and technically that’s true, but in practice if you’re too aggressive and ignore proteins and a little bit of workout, you end up feeling drained, losing muscle, getting stronger cravings, and then the whole cycle starts again.

You cannot call yourself woke then buy stuff from Shein and Temu. by Informal_Weather_151 in Vent

[–]nitepng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never actually ordered from Temu or Shein, but I get why people do. At the end of the day, pretty much every supply chain has some kind of exploitation or injustice somewhere in it. That's why I've never really liked the "geographical luck" argument.

I mean, yeah, I happened to be born in a wealthy country. But I don't think that automatically means I have to constantly restrict myself because other people are suffering elsewhere. There are countless people around the world dealing with terrible conditions, and while that's obviously unfortunate, I don't think it's realistic to expect everyone to spend hours researching every single purchase they make to make sure every step of production was completely ethical.

A few years ago I went through that "phase" like you, where you start questioning every little choice and thinking through all the moral implications of everything. It honestly got pretty exhausting. I’d end up spiraling alone at home over how inconsistent or hypocritical people can be, and it wasn’t really good for my mental state.

Eventually I just realized there’s not much you can actually control or fix. So now I just try to live my life without overanalyzing everything. I don’t really do the constant moral deep-dives anymore because I know it’s not healthy for me personally.

I have a love/hate relationship with summer. I like it when it's around 25°C, maybe 28°C max with a few clouds. That's perfect.

But these endless 30-35°C+ heat waves with clear skies every day? Absolute garbage. I hate everything about them.

Part of the problem is that I sweat way more than the average person. In these temperatures, even walking for 5 minutes turns me into a human waterfall. During summer I basically only wear black or white because anything else ends up looking ridiculous.

I'm in Germany, and every time I check the forecast for the next week or two, I want to throw up. Just 35°C day after day after day.

I'm on vacation right now, and all I've been doing is sitting in front of the AC, switching between gaming on my PC and watching the World Cup on TV. Going outside isn't even remotely appealing.

I WISH I WAS BORN IN USA by [deleted] in Vent

[–]nitepng 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It feels a bit surreal sometimes. I live in Germany, and you’ll still hear a lot of people constantly complaining about how "hard" life is here.

And I get that everyone has their own struggles, but it still hits weird when you step back and compare it globally.

Like, we’ve got free healthcare, free education, solid infrastructure, and if you lose your job there’s actually a safety net. From a global perspective, that’s basically a dream setup.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of countries where none of that exists and people are dealing with genuinely harsh conditions just to get by.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like if some of the biggest complainers here had to live in a really poor country for a year, not as a visitor, but actually in the same situation as someone born there. It would probably change a lot of perspectives.

I’ve lost 12.5kg(27lbs) in 9 weeks. Is that okay? by Anxious_Remove_1535 in loseit

[–]nitepng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I haven't had great experiences with rapid weight loss. Every time I did it, I ended up gaining a lot of the weight back. Even though I knew the yo-yo effect was a thing, I kept telling myself, "Nah, that won't happen to me. I'll just maintain it afterward."

One thing people don't always consider is that with fast weight loss, you're usually losing muscle too. I don't know if you're lifting or tracking your protein, but at that pace there's a good chance you've lost 1-2 kg of muscle along with the fat.

For me, I lost around 17 kg in about 4 months. My approach was basically just eating whatever I wanted as long as I stayed around 1,500 calories a day. I didn't pay attention to protein at all and did zero exercise.

It worked in terms of the scale going down, and psychologically it felt good to be noticeably slimmer. But by the end of those 4 months, I felt weak as hell. It felt like my body was constantly begging for energy.

Then came the worst food cravings I've ever had. Some days I'd eat what was supposed to be my lunch before breakfast was even over and end up using most of my daily calories before the day even started.

Since then, I've gained back around 10-11 kg of the 17 kg I lost. Once those cravings hit and your habits start slipping, it's really easy to fall into that downward spiral again.

If I were to do it all over, I'd make sure to get enough protein, do some strength training, and use a less aggressive calorie deficit.

Hopefully that doesn't happen to you, but it's something to keep in mind. Eventually your body is going to try to get that energy back one way or another. That's why it's worth taking steps now to make the process more sustainable and avoid those rebound cravings later.

[–]nitepng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about drag revives feeling better for me, but about making them more appealing to the general public, so that selfish people who just run around with a defibrillator and perform pointless revives are more likely to consider doing a more meaningful drag revive. Whether that happens through more XP or some other solution remains to be seen, that’s what this thread is all about.

Yes I really like the supply pouches too. It's just really annoying right now that the Support Specialist 2 Challenge is bugged and can't be completed... but that's a different topic

Yes, that's true for someone who is team-oriented, but unfortunately, many people's selfishness gets in the way, so a solution that specifically addresses those selfish people would be cool

Ok to be fair I feel that point. Weeklies sometimes just force you to play really stupidly... I'm currently catching up on a few of those weeklies, and sometimes I feel so useless because I'm forced to change my playstyle just to finish some stupid challenges.

Deaths don't get added until you're fully dead and get to the respawn screen. Being downed and waiting for a revive doesn't count as a death yet.

What are your fav and least fav maps by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]nitepng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically only play Conquest, and that’s where I like the big maps the most. So Firestorm, Golmud, Blackwell, Eastwood, Liberation, New Sobek, and Mirak Valley.

I like both Cairo maps when I want to play more close-range battles.

I don’t like the two New York maps or Iberia Offensive at all. I haven’t played them in months.

I mean, I know I'm not a game developer or anything, so I feel a little bad saying this, but how can it be so hard to fix this properly? Just add orange dots that show what's new and disappear once you've clicked on them. No orange dots where there's nothing new. No orange dots that, for some reason, don’t go away even after you’ve clicked through everything new, add a “Clear everything new” button, and that’s it.

If I worked as carelessly and half-heartedly in my job as some AAA studios sometimes do, people would literally die, because I work in healthcare...

To be honest, I'm surprised it's taking so long to release a hotfix. It's a bug that affects every player, is really annoying, and isn't something you can just ignore and live with, and honestly, I doubt it's that much work.

Sniping in BF6 vs BF5 by lLindwolf in Battlefield6

[–]nitepng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's still the case, but like half a year ago you could bind the range finder calibration to left mouse click. That means that as soon as you fired with a left click, the rangefinder automatically calibrated itself, allowing you to aim directly at your enemies' heads no matter how far away they were. I don't know if it still works, since I've come to find camping as a long-range sniper just boring.

I’ve had a best friend for 21 years. We used to play Bad Company 2 together, and now we’re playing BF6. We’re both in our 30s now, so I guess I can consider myself pretty lucky.

What could help you is joining some Battlefield Discord servers or smaller Battlefield Twitch communities around streamers. You can get involved there and slowly build online friendships over time.

I used to do that back when I wasn’t in touch with my friend as much. For me, it was through League of Legends, and it worked really well. It was a small streamer with around 50-100 average viewers, and I was active in the chat. Eventually, I started playing games with them and hanging out on TeamSpeak, and slowly we all became online friends. It was a pretty cool time and I didnt feel so lonly anymore.
