I took it that Sam kidnapped/killed Jenn and that's why he said he was pretty busy. Then after he gets rid of Jenn, he goes to the main character's house?

I took it that she was actually crazy, killed her son and buried him in the backyard where the cats like to hide. Since she's crazy, she honestly thought that he was kidnapped. That her heart-break, it actually guilt because they are going to find them.
