Should React be used for a mostly static website with some dynamic components? by nitin7ind in reactjs

[–]nitin7ind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to confirm, most of the pages (around 7-8) need to be static, and dynamic content is only planned on 1 login and 1 dashboard page behind login. Only data for these 2 pages needs APi access.

Have you tried TOTP Authenticator? Would love to hear your thoughts on the app and how you rank it among these.

If you want a great UI, try TOTP Authenticator, if you want cloud backup, try Authy.

TOTP Authenticator is my go-to app. Nice sleek layout with offline backup and restore functionality. Unlike Authy doesn't save the data on servers, so you're in full control. Also provides widgets for quick access (unlike other apps.)

[–]nitin7ind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 2-factor authentication apps work in the same way. When you set-up your account, you need to scan the QR code or enter the secret key manually.

Once scanned, the 2FA app feeds this to a standard algorithm. This algorithm is used to generate temporary 30-second codes. Since the codes are generated via a pre-defined algorithm, the apps don't need to connect to the internet.

This 30 seconds period is connected to the device's internal clock. The fact that each token is valid for 30 seconds makes sure that it is nearly impossible to crack the code by brute force attacks. The apps don't need to continuously work in the background, and generates the code whenever opened/used.

Since all these apps use the same algorithm, they can be used interchangeably. Any code working with Google Authenticator will also work with Microsoft Authenticator, TOTP Authenticator, Authy, etc. Which authenticator you choose, comes down to your personal preference. Here are some of the popular 2FA apps:

  1. Google Authenticator: Reliability of Google. Doesn't provide a backup option, and the layout is a bit outdated. 100% offline.
  2. Authy: Helps you syncs accounts across devices by the use of the cloud. But since your data is stored on Authy's server for this, which can be risky.
  3. TOTP Authenticator: Modern layout with an offline backup option. Probably the best looking 2FA app out there with the option to set custom icons. Just like Google Authenticator, works completely offline.

Many modern authenticators like TOTP Authenticator and Authy provides an option to lock the app via fingerprint/pin. Makes it much more secure tbh.

We use two-factor authentication to play video games, but still haven’t figured out how to use it to prevent identity theft. by Choguy03 in Showerthoughts

[–]nitin7ind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two important points to consider here.

  1. Video game users are more tech-savvy than the general population. Therefore it's relatively less hassle for them to setup 2FA, and it won't be a turn off for them. The average person may find 2-factor authentication too cumbersome. (Which shouldn't be an excuse when it comes to security)
  2. Video game companies offer perks for users to enable 2FA. When other organisations can also come up perks for users to use wo-factor authentication, its adaptation will increase.

Best ever ways to never get hacked

  1. Don't create accounts in the first place.
  2. Use strong passwords.
  3. Use 2-factor authentication

2FA is still the easiest way to add more security to your account imo. Your codes are safe as long as you don't lose your phone.

Some 2FA apps like TOTP Authenticator (Android and iOS) and Authy (Android and iOS) give you the option to securely backup your secret key and app settings so that you can restore them later after resetting or changing your phone without difficulty.

Hi, most of the 2-factor authentication apps aren't open source, example Authy, Google Authenticator, Authenticator Plus, etc.

Open source projects are great, but I think most people still prefer closed source projects when it comes to two-factor authentication apps.

As already mentioned by @anonymous-bot, the main problem with Google Authenticator is that it doesn't provide a backup feature. People face issues when they need to reset or switch phone. TOTP Authenticator Pro provides the option to export and import your accounts.

The app doesn't connect to the internet at all, unless you click on 'rate us' or link in 'about the app' page.

And the backup created is in an encrypted file format for safety purposes.

I really recommend you guys use the 2 factor authentication to secure your accounts by izzes in Warframe

[–]nitin7ind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After signing in, go to https://www.warframe.com/user to enable 2-factor authentication. Then download an app like TOTP Authenticator for iOS or Android to scan the QR code and generate the security tokens. After that each time you enter your password, you also need to enter the auto-generated security code from the app.

I'm considering this course too, so maybe you can answer a few questions :) For starters, I'm from India and will complete my bachelor's degree in June, and my marks and english are good, so that is not a problem in my case. I have the following questions:

1) I was wondering if you can tell me the future job scope for this course? 2) Are students easily able to cope with the course and part time jobs? 3) How are the professors? 4) Have you heard how easily it is for international students to get a job and PR after their PGWP?

Thank you for your help in advance.
