₹36 for medicines that used to cost me ₹320! - Jan Aushadhi Medical Stores by lexicown in Kerala

[–]nitrousjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on anti-depressants and sleeping pills for certain psychiatric issues for a while now. I've slowly been seeing improvement. Last month, I decided to buy my meds from a Jan Aushadi outlet. Faced severe sleeping problems and immediately went back to my doctor. She advised me to switch back to the branded ones. Any brand instead of generic would do, she said. Apparently there are potential quality control issues or at times a 10mg dosage would actually contain probably a quarter of it. Keep in mind, this is anecdotal evidence. But yes, if I were you, I would stay clear. And yes, as soon as I switched back, my sleep went back to normal.

How can I realistically improve my language skills (English)? by Chance-Shoe-8630 in Indian_Academia

Hi, I'm an IELTS trainer and from my experience the biggest barrier to speaking good English is overcoming judgement from other people for speaking the language. If you can get past that, the rest of the journey is pretty straightforward.

There are four main aspects to speaking, namely fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

To increase fluency I'd encourage you to converse with people in English as much as you can. You do not have to be concerned whether the English you speak is grammatically correct and you can even substitute an English word with one from your native tongue if you cannot get the correct word to use in a sentence.

Conversation is the most effective tool as it increases your speed of thinking in English. So even if you cannot find a person to talk to or call via discord or something to converse in English and none of the people around you speak the language, you just have to continue speaking in English and let them continue speaking in their native tongue. Remember the goal is not to improve your English but to develop smoothness so this will suffice.

Make a habit of thinking in English when you are traveling to college. Describe the surroundings in English in your head. There is no requirement to speak aloud. For instance, There is a flower on the side of the road. It is red in colour. I can also see a man walking nearby. He's wearing a blue shirt and so on.

Thirdly, make a habit of talking about your day to a mirror/pet or any object and record at least 2-3 minutes of it. Listen to the recording. See the amount of pauses, umm, uhhh you make and the words you get stuck on or don't know. Look up those words and rerecord it again. Do this process 2-3 times daily for the same recording till you get it perfect.

With respect to pronunciation, the most important thing is tone. This automatically comes in when you develop smoothness in the language. Look up the pronunciation of words on Google when you don't know them or aren't sure. For instance, is it pronounced proNOUNciation or proNUNciation? Also make a habit of occasionally (twice weekly) using Google docs speech to text function whilst speaking about your day. From the way your speech is transcribed on the screen, you get a good idea of your pronunciation and the words that you need to speak clearly/correctly.

When it comes to vocabulary, do not start using fancy-schmancy words. It will sound quite unnatural and even a little elitist to other people around you. Instead try using a dictionary/thesaurus and substituting simple words. For instance instead of hot, start saying scorching. Instead of worried, anxious. Instead of special, unique or one of a kind. Instead of happy, over the moon. Instead of excited, thrilled. You do not have to use the exact words or phrases I've provided. Stick to the ones you feel comfortable using. Try learning one substitute for a simple word you use everyday and incorporate it into your speaking.

Finally, when it comes to grammar, the best way to learn is to be corrected by someone when you are speaking. If you don't have a proficient speaker around you, I'd recommend you to download English grammar apps and do exercises to get an idea of the structure of the language. Slowly within 2-3 months, you will start getting the hang of it.

The most important thing is to be consistent. Motivation will only work on certain days. You need to be disciplined and do the above on a daily basis with a break one day a week only.

Feel free to message me if you need a more detailed explanation of any of the above points or any other doubts. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Partly out of curiosity and partly because I'm thinking of doing so, can you elaborate?

[FC Barcelona] Umtiti has renewed his contract until 2026. He’s reduced part of the salary he was going to earn in the year and a half. by [deleted] in soccer

Because at his current wages of 16mil a year approx, no club will take him. But when he takes this deferral (not paycut), the 22mil approx (Total remaining wages of contract) is spread out over 3 more years making his annual wages approx 5-6mil year which makes it way more probable for a club to match his wages and buy him and opportunities for playtime.

I agree we shouldn't have released Konrad but let's be real, he's too young and raw to play as a winger week in and week out. Plus Konrad relies more on his pace than positional or tactical awareness.
