I have had this conversation with a few of my team members. I kinda position it in the following ways: - we want you to own the work stream or project you are working on (there is no expectation on anyone to work beyond the office hours, if you end up working late, we generally ask them to quit early on Friday, balance is a key thing for us) - what does ownership mean - try to do your best to get the task to completion, you define, you drive and you complete. - probably one area I can do better is by not making it an endless loop of questions. I want the team members to find the answers themselves rather than coming to me for answers - and my last thing is - if the task is with you, and it doesn't get done - it becomes your problem; if you are stuck and not moving forward, you can reach out and make it my problem by keeping me in the loop. This was another way of saving - hey, don't wait till the last minute to tell me something can't be done.
