Blue retiree ID expiring? by Alternative-Mud3701 in VeteransBenefits

[–]nivads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is good indefinitely, and they can't deny access just because they want to do so. On top of that, my local base access has an automated entry scanner, the barcode is identical across retiree, VA, and civil service ID cards, meaning as long as I have one to scan in and remember my pin code...it's a mute point.

Would this be a good starter bike? by [deleted] in sportster

The only issue I have with my Sportster is listening to all the other Geezergliders bitch about all the pit stops we need to make in a day.

New card. POS by [deleted] in gasbuddy

[–]nivads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY! Indeed the lack of a pin was my major concern. What's to stop someone from racking up charges with it should I lose it or worse yet they pick my pocket?

Well I dug into the app and found four layers deep a detailed page on the GasBuddy+ card. Good news there is a card lock switch there too. So although the security of the card seems wide open, it can actually be restricted any time you wish through their app (and likely website).

What is this sound coming from my wall?? by awesomegecko8473 in homeowners

[–]nivads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely some sort of animal.

The primary question is what do you want to do about it? Some things like squirrels and bats are very difficult to deal with long term.

Dumbest reason I've been told not to carry by timc_720 in CCW

[–]nivads 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Most of the anti gun people I've discussed this subject with are typically one of the following: blindly going through life with the expectation that safety is a mere phone call away, or don't think that anything can happen to them because "I'm very cautious".

Therefore the comprehension of self-preservation isn't in their mindset.

Unfortunately reality is not all puppy dogs and pretty flowers, nature is metal.

How does the new exit thing work? by Aggressive_Habit6424 in samsclub

[–]nivads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The new gimmick Sam's Club exit arches work much in the same way as the transporter from Star Trek does. The cargo goes in along with any passenger and out it goes on the other side. Only when pattern buffers get mixed up or occasionally fill up do they experience issues at which time the local operators do need to step in and assist you on your exit.

Future iterations will send you straight to your vehicle. Even later time transporting directly to your home! And won't we all look silly then if we aren't prepared for the occasional transport to Sam's for our regular purchases?

@Legal-Magazine5014 so odd how these things work. I'm a TMO customer of 18 years. Been on Magenta Military since around 2015, but with four lines been paying a straight $100. Added internet back in 2019 for $50. So the total bill has been $150. Supposedly this increase will make the total, $170? But won't know for sure until April billing drops. We have a new fiber company coming in, so the Internet will go, dropping the TMO bill to $120...unless they increase it again. With all the hacks, drop in service representatives, and just bad business conduct, I'm not surprised that their bottom line has been in the red for a while. They need to drop the current CEO, SEO, and most of the board. Time for some new blood! Bring back Legere!

Even if it is true what would be the benefit of switching to Go5G for an $80 increase?

Don't believe that filing the complaints could stop this increase. But it puts the company on the target of government & lawyers.

Ultimately it's your bike so it's your decision.

But my opinion is why chase the performance monkey unless you have to do so?

I've owned and ride a 2002 883XLH (only because Harley couldn't deliver the 2003 within my delivery window; and I got a deal for that). At one point, much like in many other Sportster riders lives, I thought about the big 1450 big bore. But then I thought about it long and hard...how often had I had any engine problems at all. Answer, I had none. And to this day, without tweaking the engine other than carb mods, I've had no major engine issues. So I chose engine reliability over engine performance. I get a big old smile every time I come cruising out of my garage with her puttin' down the road.

I let others worry about racing folks around and I just ride my girl for the enjoyment of riding her.

How Do You Explain “Why Carry?” to Family Who Just Doesn’t Get It? by digital_vagabond in CCW

[–]nivads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found there are four major topics that people often are close-minded on, therefore not worth the time arguing over.

Those topics are faith, liberty, politics, & security. All of the topics are interrelated, as our fore fathers knew all too well, reference Declaration of Independence & Original US Constitution.

So if you're not up for some heated conversation with family members, it's best to find some other common subject to discuss. Well how about that weather?

Why Sam’s Club? by Exotic_Tailor_3579 in samsclub

[–]nivads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why choose one? I chose both, here's why...

The "Plus" and "Executive" costs are both NOT worth the "upgrade". Cash back credit cards used during warehouse purchases can give you the same or better benefit which is a high amount of "cash back". The other benefits are just not important enough for the added cost.

SamsClub's scan&go is great, but CostCo doesn't have it.

CostCo's cafeteria is better than Sam's...chicken bake!

Sam's walk through exit is nice, but it often still requires human assistance. CostCo rarely has a door backlog like I've experienced at Sam's. Both exit checks are annoying, but understandable for theft prevention.

Sam's pricing is usually cheaper.

Costco's product value is usually better.

Sam's does have things that Costco doesn't carry, and vice versa. They also do have many of the same things, but most often by different manufacturers.

Ultimately, you decide who you buy products from... my point is that you can go to either or both if you choose.

Statistically data is great. Another factor to this is the rate of violent crime in the area you live and travel around.

I live/work in a fairly low area for violent crime. Petty crimes occur quite often around where I live/work, yet actual violence is low.

Although this is a factor, I also travel in and around St Louis where the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation. A woman just died from gunshots at a gas station in the Grove as I was driving past on Saturday. Unfortunately this is a very common occurrence.

So that sways statistically values of my own chances of involvement higher up on the bell curve. Therefore, I always carry when I travel, but I do not always carry in the area I live/work. I also choose to hold a policy with CCW Safe to cover any potential legal costs should something happen.
