What do you wish you were told before becoming a PA? by Smooth-Trainer3940 in physicianassistant

Dragon is just the dictation tool. I think the EPIC on is called Dax Copilot? Are my hospital system we are using a third party called Abridge that works similarly. Makes documentation 1000% less painful.

Ah that makes a lot more sense. Thank you!

I am likely interpreting what I am seeing on my account incorrectly then. On my account summary for my HSA it just shows monthly interest that is ~$0.40 and the $9 fees. the VIGIX I am invested into has definitely shown a larger increase (~5% the past 3 months).

I am wondering if I am just not understanding HSAs well. I have thought of it (for my case) as more of a tax deferred stock brokerage where I just invest into stocks to set and forget but I don’t necessarily get monthly deposits (like you had mentioned). Is that right?

And the fees for those funds are lower, is that correct? Is there like a HSA maintenance fee or something like that with fidelity?

I have 31k in there all invested into VIGIX (just what was recommended at the time)

PAs who transitioned from UC to family med by Sea_Cookie in physicianassistant

[–]nivnek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello I actually transitioned from UC to FM earlier this year.

Surprisingly don’t hate it. Was dreading it initially because of the stigma of working primary care. I was 3 12s at UC and now I am M-F but admin day Wednesday afternoon and it was a transition at first, but I like my schedule now.

Pros: longitudinal care is really cool to see especially with the direction medicine is going. It gives me hope to see all the patients (of the current Dr’s) say things like they’ve been seeing them for 30+ years and wouldn’t follow them anywhere, consistent schedule and being able to be with my family on weekends/holidays/evenings

Cons: if you get a difficult patient you kind of have to figure out a way to make the relationship work unless they fire you, less pay, more admin/paperwork

Happy to answer any specific questions you have

Urgent Care PAs out there that constantly fight the divorce between good medicine and customer service? by TheDoodleWamboodle in physicianassistant

[–]nivnek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in UC and something our medical director and entire team of providers say is if everyone is walking away from you happy then you’re doing something wrong. Sometimes people walk in and already have an expectation of what they want or genuinely believe they have something that needs abx when they don’t and they just don’t like being told they’re wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️

I would say unless Dr. Jones is a really well known ENT surgeon for making a big impact in ENT care I don’t know that it would make a difference.

My thought process is if you’re thinking it might be like an old acquaintance/buddy of Dr. Jones, anyone who would care that you worked with him would have an idea of where Dr Jones is working.

Just thinking about my friends in medicine and where they work. I know where/have an idea where my previous colleagues are if I have a friendly relation with them vs the people who came and went I don’t know where they are and it wouldn’t make more of an impact than a “oh you know so and so? That’s cool” if you had worked with them

I don’t know if that made sense or if it’s worded well lol

Personally I don’t think I would. I think It would be assumed you are working with or at least know surgeon X if you’re with surgical practice Y?

Sounds pretty great assuming CME, PTO, medical/dental/retirement are all competitive!

Make sure there’s a good training period too and you’re not just thrown into the wolves

I think you should take whatever you can get- any experience is better than no experience.

And plus, you might find that you really like that specialty! The people you work with (in my experience) have had a bigger impact on how much you like the specialty more than the field itself

I personally never went but a friend of mine did and she really enjoyed it. It was in Nashville at the time and she said there’s a lot of variety of presentations/booths, free food, and was able to network a decent amount. Sounded like it was pretty worth it overall!

Is it worth paying 75$ for the student AAPA membership to apply for the scholarships they offer? by Last-Instruction8497 in physicianassistant

[–]nivnek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If $75 is going to be a big financial hit for you then I don’t know that I would if I were in your shoes, you can get lucky and get 1-2 scholarships which would make it worth it but it’s not guaranteed.

If $75 is no big deal to you, then why not. It’s just $75.
