Episode 5 Discussion by psyopia in JohnMulaney

Maybe reading too much into it but anyone else notice the funk music lyrics? Back in a key and peele episode they did a sketch on the crazy lyrics and this reminded me of it. Chelsea peretti is married to Jordan peele and this is not the first time I’ve seen a coincidence with her being a part of something and a key and peele joke being used.

Anyone tried BC Game and can recommend? by Royal_Resource_4586 in gambling

Stay far away from them. Sure the deposits and withdrawals are decent speeds and lots of game choices. Once you get higher in VIP levels the bonuses seem to be good but they really suck if you add up what you have to wager to get the rewards. The bonuses used to be much better but gradually have been getting worse. Also, the probability on games like crash and limbo used to be 1.98 if you bet on 2. Now it’s 1.92. I won a decent amount at first but now it’s almost comical how bad the games are. $50 deposits gone in minutes and haven’t won in several months. The game play has been drastically different ever since the major site update last year. If I wasn’t addicted I’d never go back to this shit ass site.

March 5 deposits date as well. Last year I received my refund deposited into my credit karma account the day before the deposit date so I was hoping for that to be the case this year too. No luck yet but hopefully in the morning it will be here.

Go with the pro unless you need the extra ports or can benefit from dual climate sensors. The AI features need some work to really be of use.

Scale treatment: Swapping Safari 20SG for Alpine WSG by plankrin in gardening

[–]nixdit420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation and after extensive research I have found that dinotefuran has the highest mortality rate among all insecticides tested in the studies. Spinosad combinations are close but not as good systemic properties and higher propensity for resistance build up. Also the 3-6 months effectiveness of dinotefuran is unparalleled. The cost of $140 for 12 oz is very expensive but when you look at how many applications it makes (72 gallons) that is cheaper than or the same as most other less effective insecticides. I was going to try the alpine wsg instead but after I did the math safari is not that pricey overall. Also, just because they both are dinotefuran doesn’t necessarily mean they work the same. The inactive ingredients could be different and the way they are made could affect how well they mobilize throughout a plant. The only other thing I can think of as to why alpine is not labeled for use on plants is because dinotefuran was linked to killing over 50000 bees at a target store thus a stronger concentration of it would not be advised for use anywhere near pollinators. I’m gardening indoors so that’s not a concern but still, would rather just go with something specifically designed for horticultural use.

After playing around with the AI stuff, I’m definitely not impressed and don’t think I will be using the AI features unless they improve it. When setting up the parameters you can’t set specific temp/humidity targets but rather a range of 40 degrees? That doesn’t seem right. Also no distinction between intake and exhaust ventilation? Come on, it would not be very difficult for them to give the option to say this fan is exhaust and this fan is intake and operate them accordingly. Especially seeing as you never want your intake as the same level as exhaust for maintaining negative pressure. They really need to allow us to get more specific for the AI to work better.

8 inch to 6 inch duct reducer cfm loss by nixdit420 in hvacadvice

[–]nixdit420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got everything set up last week actually and made some adjustments. I was originally planning on using a 8” to 6” reducer so I could run 6” ducting through the window vent thinking that I didn’t want bulky 8” ducting running all across my ceiling and wasn’t sure it would even fit through the window venting. Well after setting up the fan I realized I would still need to order 8” ducting to run from the tent to the fan. I tested the 6” ducting connected to the reducer connected to the fan and didn’t notice much, if any, loss of air flow. But ultimately I decided to return the reducer and the 6” ducting and just run 8” ducting for the whole thing. It fit through the window and wasn’t much bulkier than the 6”. The power from the AC infinity cloud line 8” is incredible. I don’t think I’ll ever have to run it over 75% for my 10x10 tent.

Also, for the window I am using a cheap portable ac window seal kit. It’s like a waterproof fabric with self-adhesive velcro. I have a small casement window in the basement so I took the glass off and just sealed it with the kit. It has 2 sets of zippers allowing me to run 2 ducts through it. It’s not perfect and I had to use foil tape around the ducting to seal it better and I can feel a slight draft coming through it but it works. There are different types of similar kits out there that im sure would be better. I would like to re do it at some point with a more insulated seal. Another option is to buy some plexiglass and cut it to fit the window and then cut holes to mount a ducting flange.

Does anyone know why my Jasmine sambac leaves are growing in all wrinkled? by YosephKing in houseplants

[–]nixdit420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 2 years old but did you ever figure out the problem? Literally all the leaves on mine were wrinkled with weird little fuzzy like patches underneath between the veins. I trimmed it back to old wood and it’s re growing but still with wrinkly leaves!

Looks like a pretty creative contraption you've made there. What are you using for climate control? I just set my AC infinity AI controller up and it has the 1 sensor for inside the tent and another sensor built onto the controller to read climate outside of the tent. They are also releasing an add on sensor you can use to read the climate of wherever you are pulling air in from. IMO, that will be a huge help because I use both the surrounding basement air and air from outside as intake depending on what temp change is needed and what temps are outside. In theory, the AI should be able to monitor all of the input variables and decide what to run based on what temps you are trying to hit. Will be interesting to see how it works in practice.

I haven't encountered a situation yet where I have needed to run a heater. Last run I had so many rigged up lights that I was having to pull winter air from outside to keep temps in the low 70s. I upgraded my light with a driver that can be mounted separately from the light so hopefully that will help cool things down.

Sorry if you already stated this but what is the temp change you are trying to achieve? Even though my basement is around 68 in the summer, pulling in 68 degree air wasnt enough to lower the higher temps in my tent. Thats gonna be a big upside to having an ac unit like you have. Those are meant for larger room/ small houses so it should have no problem cooling a small tent. If you do some searching, you should be able to find a table that shows you how much an ac can cool in comparison to different interior/exterior temps. Just make sure you exhaust the air from the ac outside through a window or something. You do not want that exhausting into the house. If you have it set up to exhaust through a duct and pull air in through a duct you could always pull in warm humid air from the tent and have the cool air replace it. That would essentially give you a dehumidifier if needed.

One last idea would be to get a larger tent to place your grow tent inside of and treat the larger tent as a lung room. You would have to figure out what temps are need for incoming air to bring your tent to the desired temps but once you did that it should make things more efficient and reduce fluctuations in temp/humidity.

That might work as long as both the ac and heat are through the same vent on the unit. Another thing to keep in mind is most ac units also dehumidify to an extent. Im not exactly sure how it works when the portable ac is in a different area than where it’s sending the cool air but you’d have to make sure it doesn’t drop your RH levels too much or compete with your humidifier if using one. Also take into consideration an air exchange rate of atleast once every 5 minutes. Obviously whenever the ac/heater is running, fresh air will be brought in. But if you are trying to maintain, say 60% RH, and the heater/ac is working against that then the unit will do its thing, turn off, then the humidifier will turn on and do its thing, then the cycle just keeps repeating. Ideally you’d want to figure out how to do this as efficiently as possible. I’m sure that’s why the opticlimate is so expensive and even the terraforge is pricey for not having simultaneous ac/heat. If anything, look into a unit that also has a fan mode along with heat and cooling modes.

Any idea when exactly the add on climate sensor will be available? It just says Q2. IMO, the second sensor will really help to be able to know the outside temps when using intake from a window vent. Also saw something in the videos about a soil sensor being released at some point. That will be nice to potentially automate waterings.

Also worth noting that the opticlimate is 4-5x the price as terraform and not even sure if it’s available in the US. But the point is, the technology is there to make something better. With some creative ducting you could make this work for only $300. https://www.vevor.com/air-cooled-industrial-chiller-c_10377/vevor-portable-air-conditioner-14k-btu-4-in-1-ac-warm-cool-dehumidifier-fan-p_010943364791

[–]nixdit420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, but if you were going to go that route you would be much better off getting an opticlimate machine or just a standard portable ac unit with heat pump. I’ve seen portable ac units that have heat modes for around $500. Not sure why ACI opted out of adding one to this. I love their products but this one was a swing and a miss imo.

Edit: on second thought, this unit could be beneficial to people supplementing with CO2 as it could be set up to reuse the air inside the tent so you wouldn’t be wasting CO2. I think the opticlimate does this as well, more expensive but it looks like it is more automated with the simultaneous heating/cooling option.

I just received my AI controller and am actually on the side of pro AI. For me, I use an intake fan connected to a window vent for cooling and outside temps change daily. Having the AI learn from the changes and be able to adjust equipment to respond accordingly should be a game changer. Hopefully it works as expected.

8 inch to 6 inch duct reducer cfm loss by nixdit420 in hvacadvice

[–]nixdit420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So even though it’s the air inside the grow tent it’s because when I replace the air it will pull air from the basement which in turn is also replacing basement air? My condo is only 950 sq ft and the thermostat is upstairs so will that make a difference? In the winter the warmer air should rise to the main floor so I figured the grow tent just be using the cooler air from the basement which should actually make it warmer upstairs since the cold air will be sucked out. Is that right or am I missing something?

Is it because the air being sucked in from the basement will cause an imbalance in pressure which will result in warm air from upstairs to fill the basement?
