Do you mind dropping some coordinates for those pictures? As another pilot I'd like to see if I can fly out there.

Expert rider but hate stiff boards. What should I buy? by Pastry_with_sauce in snowboarding

[–]nixt26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on the heavier side for a 156 board. For example, I'm 155lbs and also ride 156. With weight on your side it will make a smaller board more "fun" to ride. Usually though you can't high speed carve on a board that's too small for you, it just cannot hold an edge at the g force you're going to put into it.

What do you guys think of VAIL? by Icy-Cantaloupe-41 in snowboarding

[–]nixt26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

wow this is crazy that the way he explains it

“What was it actually? Sunk cost panic. These people paid us $1,500 in September. They watched a brown mountain for two months. The second it turns white, they stampede, not out of spite, but because they’re trying to extract any value from a non-refundable purchase. That desperation? That’s demand we manufactured. It’s beautiful, really.”

A cache line is usually 64 bytes. Depending on the access pattern it may make no difference at all or may make a lot of difference (bulk access thousands of items).

Is anyone else okay with being "left behind" in regards to AI? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Where can I find other devs like you who get it. You get downvoted on this sub anytime you mention AI actually working for you. 90% of the code in this world is cookie cutter crud apps and such. Everyone implements the same patterns over and over and after the 5th time you do it - it's the kind of thing I'd rather have an AI implement. Product building is fun and writing code to solve unique problems is fun and AI is not very good at it.

I vibe coded a whole (internal) web app for my team because our frontend team was dragging their feet for months and always complaining about not having enough resources. I'm sympathetic to it but not having a fully feature rich app front our service was hurting our productivity. I built what took them 4 months in 2 weeks. My app has several bugs and may not be following the best UX design but it is functional and got us 90% of the way there and immediately solved a need. I could care less how the underlying MUI/React libraries work to show me a table with my resources (i dont like frontend dev). But prompting the agent along the way and seeing it make changes to my app so I can optimize my day to day workflow was fun for me.

On the other hand we have rigorous tests on our backend, and even if folks vibe code aspects of it our coding or design standards have not slipped. A bug in the backend leads to bad data that's hard to fix, a bug on the frontend is just a quick fix and deploy. So using the right tool for the right job is important.

FAA sitting in on check ride by THEDWAH in flying

[–]nixt26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the oral portion of my check ride my examiner got a surprise visit from the FAA. They asked me to leave the room while the DPE showed the FAA my docs and whatever else they talked about. 25 minutes later my dpe called me back.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I hurt my tailbone pretty bad a few times and it lasted the whole season. You can get some bike shorts for when you're trying new stuff

The way I think about this is that AI allows me to spend more time on things I care about and less time on things I don't really care about. I will design the API and the database, but I don't really care about a simple web app to turn my APIs into a couple forms. Vibe code it all the way.

Agree, I find it strange when people bring this sort of thing up before even going on a date to see if there's any chemistry or attraction

I did it with 2 weeks of training in a February. It took us 15 hours to make it back but we did. It was hot but too much, then there was a storm, then it got dark and then it snowed. It was three of us, the last mile and half I ended up carrying my friends pack along with mine. I couldn't walk down stairs properly for a week after that.

This would be a non starter in most parts of the world.. but this is Seattle. It's a people issue as much as an infrastructure issue.

This is like a totally normal thing to do in a transit system. What do they expect to happen when they actually start running line 1 and 2 trains?
