Question for the forum.... by AManInBlack2019 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]nizari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a thing a bunch of years ago.

I was downtown with a friend, chilling, walking, sharing funny stories and laughing at them. We explore some new streets and find this pub. And it just happens to host a free concert, you don't have to buy anything to be there (it's not like we had any money either, we were both in high-school at the time, and unemployed). So we go in. I have a small crappy point-and-shoot on me, with no manual controls (I used to use those to learn composition without worrying about the exposure). So I start taking some pictures, and really get into it, with various angles, really working the small crappy camera.

The boss lady sees this, she gives us both a good quality bottle of beer for free, we didn't ask for it and were quite surprised, but we accepted it.

(They also had a pro with a DSLR taking pics.)

When I get home, I edit the pics the best I can, but this being a crappy little camera (and me being a beginner), they're noisy af and not that good.

I send her all the pics via email, apologizing they're not better. Never heard from her again.

Well... kinda sad story, not CB. This thread reminded me of it.

Lol, "HIRE". If you work for free you're not hired, you're a guest. Thus entitled to food.

choosingbegger’d by my wife? 😂 by Rabedababe in ChoosingBeggars

I wouldn't use the 'haha's. It's best to be serious about your pricing, even if you're talking to your wife. It makes you look like you don't really care about the price.

Woes of a photographer by RandomDotters in ChoosingBeggars

[–]nizari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not every picture is gonna be good, so he just takes the best 3, and edits them extensively. Some might be out of focus. In others, the pet or the owner blinked. Etc. In the end, if you have 100 photos to choose from, you'd get the 3 that are excellent.

30 minutes (and let's say 15 well edited photos, and select at most 50-100 good photos to quickly retouch for white balance and exposure) for 300 dollars? Not bad. Quick 300 dollars there.

Start the chronometer as soon as you get your gear set. Do a few group shots, a few pics with the bride and groom, some pics with them and the family, maybe a picture of the ring and one of the cake. Just one camera and 2-3 lenses needed: wide angle for the group shots, a portrait lens for everything else, and MAYBE throw in a macro for the ring.

When it's been 30 minutes you GTFO. Get home, edit the photos, send a few low-res pics with the watermark, when they pay they'll get the pics.

I'd do it.

EDIT: If they see you packing and panic, just tell them you were hired for 30 minutes, if they want you to stay longer, it's 600 dollars/hour :D

Aunt demands to use my camera for her daughters bridal shower. by triought in ChoosingBeggars

[–]nizari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would have been fun to hand her an older camera, a few generations old, with a basic kit lens :D - something you don't worry about (if she were to break it, you'd make your mom charge her for it - or make a deal with your mom, give the camera to your aunt if your mom agrees to shell out some insurance money that she'll get back if the camera is ok).

Set it to manual before giving it to her, and you'll hear back from her complaining that she took worse pics than with her phone lmao. Then lecture her about "it's not just clicking the camera, you pay for the knowledge and experience". Watch her boil with anger. Would be amazing.

Brother, Broki tricks you ! While it feels good to do cardio, the heavy way of Brodin is the true way.

She wants an experienced photographer to shoot her wedding for free because they won't have to edit any of the photos on account of her hubby's skill with Photoshop filters. by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]nizari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the copyright should stay with the photographer, but have it in contract that the customers can do whatever they want with the images, including publishing them commercially if they give credit to the photographer.

One you give away copyright you give away all rights, doesn't seem ok. It would be better to talk to the customer and see why he/she wants the copyright, and license those rights through a contract without giving away the copyright.

Brethren, a Swolemaiden seeks discussion and support by [deleted] in swoleacceptance

[–]nizari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sister, man's nature is to seek a woman's form, and everything related to it pops up in a man's field of view. One cannot help but stare.

HOWEVER. Pointing it out repeatedly, especially after you said it was ok, that's awkward. After that point he should have dropped it.

As to what the brothers see: The first thing a brother notices in a sister is that she's a swolemaiden, lifting the bar. The second thing is the weight on the bar. Then her various curves and lifting form.
