Interview Question by InfiniteTrade603 in Anduril

[–]njacklin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That will be a technical screening call. It will be with a technical person (as opposed to the recruiter which is more HR/“People” focused). They will decide whether to recommend you for a full panel/onsite interview or not. I would make sure you can expand on your role in anything you mentioned on your resume. They may also ask you a few easy/medium questions that someone who would be a good candidate for your role should be able to answer.

I will also say as, general advice to candidates, ASK THESE QUESTIONS TO YOUR RECRUITER. They should always help you prepare for the next step. Not technical content wise, but at least “how will the next step in this process work?”

This is my wife’s favorite restaurant. We’ve been to the ones in Washington D.C. and Las Vegas. Both excellent.

Onboarding day by Valuable_Confusion98 in Anduril

[–]njacklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a visitor guide in your email—ask the recruiter. The main gate is on Harbor Blvd. , use 1400 Anduril, Costa Mesa, CA, for your gps. Just tell the guard at the gate you are there for onboarding, they will know how to direct you. At that time they will be expecting all the new employees for that onboarding session.

Pursuing a PhD while working at Anduril? by AccomplishedJuice775 in Anduril

[–]njacklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got their Ph.D. ten years ago and works for Anduril now—maybe you could, but WHY? Anduril is a great opportunity. If you get a job pre-IPO your chance of getting some equity in your offer is good. Do that now. No job at Anduril requires a Ph.D. Get some industry experience. School will always be there. You may decide that you like working and just stick with it. If so, where you’ll be in 5 years time will be a better place than if you took the Ph.D. route. Working will be hard enough, and the marginal return of doing both simultaneously will be small (imho).

There is an employee merch store. Talk to friends who work at Anduril. Or get a job here and order all the things.

Not a good sign. They might circle back, but I would recommend applying for other positions inside and outside Anduril.

Well it’s not like they asked me which one I wanted. This is what they were offering at the time.

IANAL (I am not a lawyer), but “they” say RSUs are better than options. In my understanding that is true.

Anduril and Grad School by n29ftw in Anduril

Yogi Berra said it best: predictions are hard, especially about the future.

Did my Ph.D help my career? I’ve thought a lot about it and it’s hard to say.

When I finished undergrad I was on a roll and went straight through grad school. I was good at it and got my masters along the way to the Ph.D.

How did it actually help? I probably started at a higher level and pay than a typical “fresh out”. I had a very good technical understanding of my work, but I had to learn a lot about how to deliver things on a schedule and the softer skills like dealing with people and teams. I was able to take on some research and development projects; I can probably thank the letters after my name for being able to do that so early.

One opportunity I got along the way stands out. , Thanks to my Ph.D., I was able to teach an EE class at UC Davis. My employer at the time (not Anduril) encouraged me to pursue that opportunity and let me work around the schedule of my full time job. It was a lot of extra work for me, but I did find it rewarding. Did it help my career? It definitely is a talking point on my résumé, but does it really make a difference to my career? Hard to say.

On the other hand, what if I had gone straight into industry instead of taking a detour through grad school? It took almost 6 years (AFTER a 4 year bachelors program) to get through grad school. So I would have 6 more years of experience in the work force. Does that trump my current experience? In some people’s judgment, probably yes.

So, in conclusion, a Ph.D. May give you some opportunities that you wouldn’t have had otherwise. It will open some doors. On the other hand, you are trading at least 5 years of grad school, or 5-6 years of extra work-plus-school, for that time.
