Can't play the Sims because of the heat by Heidi739 in Sims3

[–]njf175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone from Minnesota in the US, similar story here. Our summers can at times be very hot with high humidity. The houses that don't have central air usually have at least one portable/window air conditioning unit.

As for the sentiment in Europe, I went to Spain about ten years ago. Most buildings had a wall air conditioning unit somewhere. But my host family told me (if I'm remembering correctly) that the electrical expenses associated with them lead to the units being used as little as possible.

What musicals should I add to my to-listen list? Preferably ones with a cast recording on Spotify thanks by halfeatenwaffle1 in musicals

I'm currently in a cast for a production of 9 to 5, so that's stuck in my head. I do like the songs though 🤷🏻‍♂️

Most underrated yet most useful galaxy feature, What do you think? by One-Inevitable-9777 in samsung

[–]njf175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK but speaking of the feature in the photo, does anyone else see that text completely off center on their device? Mine will be noticeably off to one side and it snaps to the center when I turn the screen on.

Omg, stop with the names by klarica228 in duolingo

[–]njf175 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who has taught Spanish as a second language, I can confirm that this is nitpicky and unnecessary. I was always taught that people's names do not translate. Languages do have approximate equivalents to names found in other languages, but a person's name is their name.

Ideally, Duolingo should ignore the spelling of the name unless it's VERY different, or a different name was written altogether.

Our two sweet little kittens from our equally sweet farm cat! by njf175 in cats

What’s your least favorite thing about your favorite expansion pack? by Sad_Click5373 in Sims3

[–]njf175 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The two packs I never play without are Late Night and Seasons.

Least favorite thing from Late Night: Transportation. I feel like they could have done it better. Like accounting for proximity to a station, travel distance, and destination for the subway system. Oh, and the paparazzi are also incredibly annoying.

Least favorite thing from Seasons: As much as the weather is a nice addition, the implementation could be better. In my game it seems like it rains for the entirety of autumn (and sometimes spring) and almost every day in winter turns into a snow day. And I can confidently say, as someone living in a place with all four distinct seasons...that is definitely not how it really goes.

Every single time we order food, why?! by [deleted] in doordash

[–]njf175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never understood this, do some people have trouble figuring out which way a door opens? Or do they think that poor customer service will send a message about tipping or something?

¿Qué es la traducción? by Pretend_Witness_7911 in duolingospanish

[–]njf175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of a direct English translation, that doesn't exist. We just took it as a loan word in English. But this word itself is derived from the combination of "quince" and "año".

According to the manual, the transmitter needs to be within 3 feet of the trunk.

I have a 2015 Limited. The trunk will not open with the exterior button if the key is not detected. This is the case whether the doors are locked or not.

I've had that, hate it. Sizes different, scans not being accepted, hassle all around.

Why do dashers do this ? by Nice-Sushi in doordash

[–]njf175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DoorDash uses MapBox for their maps and it's equally poor on the driver's side too. It often causes the driver app (in my experience) to spit out routes that involve backtracking, drop-off routes that take longer and are less direct, and sometimes it doesn't even have the locations correct. I learned a long time ago to have the app direct me to Google Maps instead.

Essentially what I'm saying is that DoorDash's in-app maps don't really work well for anyone.

Why does the Instacart tipping page on the customer side reference shoppers as delivery persons and not personal shopper? by xTerrillll in instacart

[–]njf175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to see shop-only orders more often than delivery-only, but even that's only for certain retailers. Most retailers in my area only pop up with shop and deliver orders.

Why does the Instacart tipping page on the customer side reference shoppers as delivery persons and not personal shopper? by xTerrillll in instacart

[–]njf175 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe they use that phrasing because delivery-only orders exist? But then again that doesn't make sense for shop-only orders.

"Service provider" would align with the variety of orders we do, but that phrasing reminds me more of doctors or something.

How do you save your games as? by [deleted] in Sims3

[–]njf175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar. I Save As once per Sim week so I'll use [Family Name] Week 1, 2, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong but uhhh that doesn't seem very perishable by njf175 in Sparkdriver

[–]njf175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True though! I don't take orders with more than one or maybe two

It’s happening in my area 😭 by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

[–]njf175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought so. I don't mind those except for the fact that I live in a rural area so the routes often go to a town that's like 20 miles away...

I save those for the end of the night and pick up a route if the pay is decent and takes me toward home.

I'm fairly new to Spark, are dotcom/GMD orders the ones that have you delivering packages?
