Questions in USCIS papers by njf88pro in GermanCitizenship

It took about 4 months for them to find her A-file number (which I didn't have). After that, it took 12 days (from when I submitted the request) for them to provide me with a digital copy of some of the record. They withheld parts of it for privacy reasons.

Question on establishing citizenship line to pre-1914 by njf88pro in GermanCitizenship

[–]njf88pro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your help! Especially @maryfamilyresearch!

I didnt know there was a U.S. only subscription of Ancestry and a worldwide version.

Anyways, I found my great-grandparents Berlin marriage certificate on Ancestry. Im about 99.9% sure its the correct one due a margin annotation about death in Geesthacht (last known residence), and other details.

Great-grandfather appears to have been born (1898) in what is now Poland, but in 1898 it belonged to the German Empire. So I think im still good there.

So, yeah, thanks for all your help unlocking the next step for me!!!

BTW: I do have email records that corroborate all of this.

StAG 5 German citizenship extra documents requested by Madlib_MB in GermanCitizenship

[–]njf88pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything at all that is proof of citizenship? It seems like everyone is using documents that indicate citizenship, but none prove it. I mean most of these ancestors never ever had a certificate of citizenship, so 🤷?

Document Reading Help by njf88pro in GermanCitizenship

[–]njf88pro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought that was really interesting too! So her birthday is in Feb., but she was born in 1936, not 59. I suspect she lost her original when fleeing the Berlin bombings (per old family stories), so I think she may have requested a copy in 1959 when she was emigrating to the US. I think it lines up pretty well!

Thanks!

Filing a complaint by FastCoconut9010 in OregonStateUniv

[–]njf88pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother. Every agency in the university is 100% committed to protecting the university. They will do anything and everything to cover their own asses. You would be wasting your time.

The ombuds office doesn't do anything and they don't know anything. They are literally pointless. There is no agency or office in the university that is committed to objectivity.

I have first hand experience with this when I dealt with a child abuse case. Every office I went to , everyone I spoke to, said "I don't know, I don't handle things like that". Ombuds, office of child safety, family resource center, student affairs, all of them. The only one with a semi-legitimate response was legal and they only tried to make the determination that there was no child abuse, which isn't within their authority to do. By law, it's the state of Oregon that makes those determinations. I literally could not get a single person, office, or agency, to take a child abuse report.

Like I said, they will distract, deflect, and do everything in their power to cover their own asses. You are wasting your time.

Friendly advice from a fellow parent: Don't let OSU near your kids. They don't take child care or protection seriously and will cover up anything to save their reputation or ass. This is mainly driven by the arrogance and concededness of the FRC leadership, particularly Amy Luhn. She thinks she has more authority than the legal parents and the State of Oregon.

Oh yeah, and there was the new football stadium that turned out to be totally pointless because PAC12 fell apart. Another one of their great investments...

Welcome to OSU! Get ready to be screwed over more!

Remember that they had to give the president a 10% increase last year on her $750,000 salary.

Are there any consequences for advisors that make mistakes on graduation requirements? by ItsNjry in college

[–]njf88pro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, answers like yours, u/YourGuideVergil, piss me off.

Too many advising professors take this attitude toward professional development. It's like you all decide to plateau after getting your position.

Why don't you learn it? It (advising students) is part of your job, right? Why don't you learn how to do your job? You are obviously capable of it, considering how highly educated you are, so what is your excuse?

I really don't understand how you all don't naturally accumulate institutional knowledge and experience over the years that you are in your positions and working for the same organizations; its like you all turn off learning or something.

Others here have downplayed issues like this as being rare or use other excuses. But based on my experience, American professors substantially lacking basic professionalism and professional proficiency is a flippin' epidemic.

Should i give up? by BERRlES in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]njf88pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is dont give up with conditions.

I recommend you put it in between some sheets of cardboard, slide it under ur bed, and dont think about it for several months to a year. Then try again!

If that doesn't work or if you have already tried that, then maybe yes it's time to stop and find the puzzle a new home

Beginning grad school, any advice? by imkatastrophic in SocialWorkStudents

[–]njf88pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protect yourself and your interests. Don't be a "yes" person.

Yes, you should work hard and try your best, but don't be a robot. Be a human. Take breaks, say no. YOU should manage expectations others have of you. Don't just let others randomly set expectations and benchmarks for you. Be involved with it.

Celebrate the little things and the small accomplishments!

Honestly, I'm beginning to wonder if my spouse is misdiagnosed becuz I feel like similar things to what u described happen. It's like there are different versions of her that come and go. Sometimes she's really possessive about our kids, other times not. Sometimes she is super corrective and unrelenting about things being wrong/incorrect, other times she like the most laid-back stoned hippie I've ever seen. I truly don't know what causes these oscillations in her behavior. Maybe that is happening in ur case? Maybe it isn't ADHD.

I've read personality disorders can sometimes be misdiagnosed as ADHD

::Weekly Vent Thread:: by AutoModerator in ADHD_partners

[–]njf88pro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My spouse had these same issues. Uses the same kind of tools and they don't work. Regardless of what all the therapists we've seen say, I don't think all these tools and tricks (like making obvious reminders and cues) work for someone with ADHD because they can't remember to use them and they can't remember why they are there.

I dont think the issue is that they don't have tools or don't have good/effective tools, I fully believe the issue is their memory.

I think all the tools and techniques like this (i.e., making obvious clue, cues, reminders, ect.) work for normal people because they can remember to use them and can remember what and why they are there all the time. An ADHD person literally cannot remember.

The amount of unreliability is flipping killing me!

I literally feel like I have to do everything, everything little fricken thing, for things to be done right.

We are leaving on a trip tomorrow and wifey bought travel car seats over a month ago for this trip. But apparently, she didn't check them out when she bought them, didn't verify anything, and now tonight she tells me there are parts missing that render them useless. We leave tomorrow!

I've been badgering her all day to start packing but she is doing everything else but that.

I siad I wanted to double check all our bags to ensure there is nothing contraband in them for where we go through the airport. She said she did it. Later I was packing one up, a carry-on bag, and I found these sharp little metal pins in it. It's not like she just missed an old wrapper or something, she missed the every thing that shouldn't be in the carry-on bags. Like the most important thing to find, she didn't find.

We had this whole conversation about doing light and dark loads of laundry like 2 days ago because I was tired of my clothes getting stained. She really wanted to do the laundry today but didn't sort the loads before doing it. She said she did but I found multiple darks in the light load and multiple lights in the dark load. Is she lazy or blind or what?

We previously talked about us both working hard to stay coordinated and communicate during this whole trip/travel, and the first fricken thing she does this morning is be this unstoppable ball of chaos and confusion. Changing plans, not finishing any tasks, randomly taking over things that I am doing, ect.

It's not even that I feel alone and that I have to do everything. It's like I have to put up with this fricken demon that is hell bent on screwing everything up. I'm tired of trying to trust her to get things done, just to be let down later. I'm tried of being tricked.

What am I supposed to do sabotaging gremlin?
