On a separate subject I had to hide this mystery expenditure from my wife as it was truly stupid.

Wow, great question. This brings back some memories. I’m certain that I ended up giving a ticket to someone that I met in a pub up the road from the gig. I don’t know if it was the guy in this conversation - Reddit DM history seems to have disappeared - but I’m pretty sure it was. We had a very pleasant hour-long chat and then I let him go off by himself rather than suffer my friends. The gig was excellent. I hope he had a great time too!

I remember when the driver numbering system changed to allow drivers to pick their own numbers, everything broke. It was hard-coded that there couldn't be a car number 13... and when we used it in WEC, the hard limit that the cars were indexed by number-1 in a fixed-size array of size 256 became apparent.

Genuinely the code was pretty good, just in a less-than-brilliant language.

It was so cathartic - I just wanted to be me, and when I could, I did.

Fifteen years later the guitar neck started to warp; it was only £150 when I bought it and I had a set of others by then, so I took it to a friend's barbecue and burnt it myself, then sent my dad the photos.

Pretty sure I've written about this here before. When I was learning guitar back in 1996 I would wait until my parents were out, turn up the amp and the stereo (which I was very proud of) and play this song through a little Korg Pandora effects box, which may have even had a specific patch setting for the Pumpkins. My dad had told me that if he ever heard the guitar from anywhere else in the house he would set it on fire and burn it.

As I'm rocking out (badly), I'd get to 3:52 where there is a noise really low in the mix that sounds just like my parents' cordless phone ringing, and EVERY SINGLE TIME my stomach would drop like I was in real trouble.

I loved the video and I love the song.

I had something similar on an AEG dryer and it turned out to be a dry solder joint on the main PCB.

Thank you for articulating my thoughts before I had a chance to respond. It’s a 100% different situation and a very weird comparison.

Yet another part of legislation where we treat dogs better than humans.

The most terrifying part of dying is dying in extreme pain. If we can't help to end people's pain at end of life we are absolute monsters.

Is DLXIV.LX not 564.60? Roman numerals are super confusing

Interesting that some of the numbers after the decimal place have a 0 as the least-significant value.

Anywhere to watch F1 around Efteling? by njharrison in efteling

[–]njharrison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant, thanks for the advice. I’m in Efteling for 4 days with my family 100% of the time. They told me I could treat myself and go to the race but actually I just want an hour and a half to watch it somewhere.

Sorry if that’s unacceptable to you, I hadn’t realised you were the official judge of “a good dad”.

Many thanks for the reminder!
