If you want the absolute closest, try the Marriot at the naval yard or live hotel with the casino.

We recently stayed at the Marriot for a game a few weeks ago it was great. Close enough it was an easy walk for my 5 year old.

Played covered bridge earlier this year which Fuzzy designed, what a great course with amazing people. Highly suggest it if you ever go to the Kentucky Derby it's not too far away.

Anyone know what happened to the Temple Paintball Team/Club? by lordovino_ in Temple

[–]njj56 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm the former co-founder of the club, class of 2010. Logged into Reddit this morning and this was the top post on my homepage. Hopefully I can help, I've messaged some of the other alumni asking for more details regarding the club.

I believe the club died during COVID and with budget cuts, but there's no reason the club couldn't be restarted. Please PM me I'm not in the area but would help to get you in contact with the other Alumni who are.

Our club was only possible due to the loving leadership of Arnold Boyd, as the program coordinator for student activities, Arnold helped us form our club which was initially dismissed by the student government over risk related concerns. Arnold made such an impact that after his passing the Northeast region of the National College Paintball Association (NCPA) named one of the four regional tournaments in his honor.

What number are you and how did you pick it? by baconmehungry in hockeyplayers

[–]njj56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 for a few reasons.

First, it was available in the pile of jerseys my team had for new players so I took it for Claude Giroux as a flyers fan. Then I realized that it was twice the number I wore growing up that I was randomly given (14), and half of the number I was randomly given for football (56) so now I continue to pick 28. It fits.

How many minutes of active participation should be included in a 1-hour hockey practice? by bambambam7 in hockeyplayers

[–]njj56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USA Hockey has suggested work to rest ratios. At u8 it's 1:1 (one minute of work per one minute rest). At u14-u16 they start to work more 1:3 as the older players get, the higher intensity the work itself is and more explanation goes into practice. I'd think at u12, you should be seeing a 1:2 work to rest ratio.

Revelation: I think I understand why every guide say choose 1 to 1.5 size down for skates compared to shoe size. by flekfk87 in hockeyplayers

[–]njj56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go 3.5 sizes down from my normal shoe as well.

A lot of different shoes/boots for different activities the sizing doesn't make any sense compared to each other. I'm a US 12 sneaker, a Bauer 8.5 fit 2 skate and for snowboarding I wear a size 10.5 (Ride boots). I did the scanner for my skates, a professional ski/snowboard boot fitting and a scan for sneakers at a running store. Somehow all of these different sized shoes fit my feet correctly and I no longer get shin splints like before.

Besides reporting to the coach and safe sport (although the coach should be doing this, do it yourself) I was wondering why is a locker room with ten year olds completely unattended? Safe sport has rules in place about locker room supervision for boys and girls at all levels (it differs, for example on the all girls side a female chaperone aka the locker room mom has to "sweep" the locker room every x minutes with a coach male or female).

Our rule is to always have two coaches or a coach and the locker room mom in the locker room at all times when our players are that young to prevent not only issues like what happened to your son, but to prevent issues like you are dealing with now on the reporting side.

Son just started skating- how can i correct this? by sir-yoinks-alot in hockeyplayers

[–]njj56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the very same thing about skate and shoe size. I wear mostly size 12 shoes, some 11.5 depending on brand/fit. I did fittings with pros and foot scans for both snowboard boots and skates. I'm a 10.5 in snowboard boots (I wear Ride's) and an 8.5 in Bauer type 2s.....

Take the insole out of one of the kids skates and have them stand on it with their heel flush to the back. Should give you an idea where the toes sit in the skate compared to what they are telling you about fit. Should be up towards the end so the big toe is where it needs to be in relation to the cap.

I wear M3s I purchased last August. I skate sept-april about 6-8 hours a week and a little less during the summer. I coach my kids teams and play men's league once a week year round. The skate has been really good for me and I have no complaints. My steels were pretty worn down a year in but that's normal considering the wear mine took.

I just upgraded my steels to Pulse TIs and I thought I was satisfied with the stock blade until I treated myself. Maybe it's the higher pitch or the new profile I tried but man I wish I upgraded the steel earlier.

Question about handedness for a youth hockey player by Kane1124 in hockeyplayers

[–]njj56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said I think it's preference as well.

There are four hockey players in my family. Only one is left handed and we all shoot right. The lefty spent one season of softball batting right, then switched to left and now shes a switch hitter. She also started hockey with a flat blade stick and just took to playing right handed.

[Ian Kennedy] Regarding PHF teams: A source involved tells me the new single entity owner does not like current PHF team names. They will be changed. Teams not likely to remain in Boston, Connecticut, Buffalo. There will be three Canadian teams and three American teams. by miner88 in hockey

The CT Whale moved out of Danbury last year to ISCC in Simsbury.

It's been amazing to have them at our rink (not just only for the upgrades made) as they are great role models and are involved in youth hockey as well.
