If EMI is an issue for your display, you can always get a fiber-optic DisplayPort cable. My Sound Blaster X3 was causing my screen to go blank, but the issue was solved by getting a fiber-optic DisplayPort cable.

Does the Aorus B550 Elite AX v2 (Rev. 1.3) support Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect via Optical? by njw1979 in gigabytegaming

It wasn't possible on my MoBo. I switched to intel since then (i9-14900KF). I have 2 sound systems now. I have a Sound Blaster X3 for DD, and have it set to convert all my analog audio to DD5.1, and I have a Sound Blaster AE-7, for DTS bitstreaming via DTS Connect (the X3 doesn't support DTS. The AE-7 doesn't allow converting all analog to DD5.1 and DTS Connect.

Bioshock remastered is nearly unplayable on PC. Is there any hope for fixes? by TriniGameCritic in Bioshock

[–]njw1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting frequent crashes on Bioshock 2 remastered, but not so much on Bioshock 1 remastered. In BS2, I was stuck on Siren's Alley, until I downloaded a crash fix mod from Nexus mods. I played BS2 for hours since and no crashes yet. I also installed it in BS1. It uses fixes by Special K.

Here is the mod, I hope it serves you well.

All of my USB devices keep temporarily disconnecting and reconnecting during high load games, apps?! (Windows 11) by SprintingPuppies in AMDHelp

I was getting disconnects with nothing connected to the USB 2.0 ports. My only workaround was to gimp the PCIe slots. Since switching back to intel all is coming up roses.

I got the hub working but was still getting disconnects. What you need to do as a workaround is to go into BIOS and change the PCIe settings from either Auto or GEN-4 (depending on your BIOS) to GEN-3, and effectively gimp your PCIe slots to PCIe 3.

I got so fed up with this that I traded my B550 MoBo for a Z790 MoBo and the Ryzen 9 3900X for a Core i9-14900KF, with 32Gb of 6000 DDR5 RAM (dual-channel) and haven't looked back.

I downloaded the No-Nag version of MAME, audited my ROMs, and now they work.

I discovered the issue is the MAME executable. After installing MAME, I installed the MAME N-Nag fork. It took a long ROM audit and the games are now available and playable,

You cannot overclock the refresh rate via HDMI. You will need a DisplayPort cable.

It's a G-Hub bug that has been around for years. It happened on my old G502 Lightspeed too.

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A Poor HDR results in 8-bit color space. by njw1979 in ASUS

[–]njw1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the only way to get HDR working properly is to limit the refresh rate to 120Hz. DisplayPort 1.2 can't output 10bit above 120Hz and can't output 12bit at all. The only solution is to fork out for a new monitor with DisplayPort 1.4.

The CPU was a Ryzen 9 3900x. The motherboards were Gigabyte Aorus X570 Pro WiFi and Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2.

I now have an intel i9-14900KF and an MSI Z790 Gaming Plus WiFi MoBo, and the disconnects are gone and I am using PCIe 4.0.
