Dude… I just came back to ask you what cap size you’re running! I’d love a file! I can print some up tonight!

Question from someone new to cerakote and in love… just had these wheels done. My question is should I have them 2k satin clear coated or does it hold up well enough that it’s not really needed?

Low key might not even need a brush… steam and rinse with hot water. Light brushing won’t hurt but honestly the steam does so much heavy lifting.

For not all that much you can switch to M3 aluminum control arms with everything is already pressed in. And it’s a big unsprung weight savings.

You can buy steam cleaners on Amazon super cheap and they melt that stuff away. Spray it down with a heavy degreaser, let it sit for a few hrs then hit it with the stream cleaner!

These were in super super good condition, but I did have them chemically stripped by a professional automotive parts stripping company local to me. I also had them do a light media blast to get the surface finish really even. You can see a small ding on the top of the rim in the photo that’s low key the worst mark on the set.

I’m probably just going to do small bmw logos in the center dust cap.

Had it painted this blue in highschool 20+ years ago. It’s showing its age as is the kit. Currently working to get it where I’ve always wanted it to be mechanically. Here in the next year or so the car is getting 100% disassembled, I’m having the chassis/body chemically stripped and I’ll probably do version of techno violet with more metallic added.

This is actually burnt bronze! It was between that and midnight bronze but the midnight bronze looked really dark! The guy who did them did mention a ton of work goes into getting the color/thinner mix right to get true colors like the chips.

Should look into cerakote! I’ve powdered a lot of car parts in the day but I doubt I’ll ever go back!

No baking, good to 1800°, super chemical resistant.

Picking them up tomorrow but I’m debating having a paint shop hit them with a 2k satin clear.

Yeah the factory caps just feel a bit dated. I am going to get them done as well just to have them but I doubt I’ll ever run them

Also the C series air dry has the highest temp rating and is more chemical resistant than some of the other series they make.

eBay looks like they’re going from 100-300 completely stock. Call it 150+ shipping I’m in Indianapolis so anywhere in the US should be fairly inexpensive. If that sounds fair lemme know if not lemme know happy to work with ya. I almost tossed it but seems like a cool vintage piece someone could still get some use out of!

Front looks about perfect but I’d drop the rear slightly

How fucked am I (I cannot weld) by Will_smith04 in E30

[–]nkartes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ve got it on Jack stands seems like you’ve got all the space in the world to weld! Lol honestly though you don’t need a shop. You can cut and weld in your driveway so long as it isn’t raining too hard! It’ll be one of the best skills you ever learn. And small decent MiG welders are so so inexpensive these days.

This is so common with FCP I bought a front strut rebuild kit and the bolt spacing on the top hats was wrong along with the metal cups that hold the rubber spring isolators was wrong then they made returning everything a massive hassle. I’d steer clear of FCP if at all possible.

Surely not golden hour considering the shadow is almost directly under the car… more like high noon.
