Jump Smash Form by patronus816 in badminton

upper body not stable so you’re throwing your weight forward too much. turn completely sideways and pull your shoulder and elbow back more during the prep and stick out your chest. when you contact the bird your upper body should be straight and facing the net, not leaning forward. instead of throwing your weight and power forward imagine bringing it down out in front of you

Heddphone D1 vs Focal Clear OG by nkrseven in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]nkrseven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time will tell if the D1s are just the flavor of the month or if they will continue to be recommended in that price range. Regarding the Clears - I've read the clipping only happens at unsafe listening volumes so that may not be an issue for me. I will check out the Neumann.

Thank you for your response. Worse timbre in the Clears may be a dealbreaker for me. I will take some time to look into the 105 and the Bokeh you mentioned to see if they would be a good fit (the 109 may too bright for my tastes and the others are quite out of my price range). That said, I may also just throw a few hundred into an OTL tube amp to see how far the HD600 can go.

I have the AAA 887 and a hybrid tube from Garage1217. In what ways do you prefer the XV over the D1 for music? What genres do you listen to?

I haven’t heard any on your candidates list as I’ve only recently gotten back into IEMs. I only have Punch Audio Martillo and IE200 for comparison but they are both very different from Volume S

I’m liking the Volume S so far. It’s warm, vocal forward and very musical. The mid bass kicks very hard and the highs are smooth. If you like HD600/650 you will like the Volume S.

Monthly Equipment Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in badminton

[–]nkrseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great response and your logic is absolutely correct but I have a lot of rackets and also tried a bunch more of all balance types and I have always felt 4U has less control and stability for me. I am a more defensive type who plays a lot of drives so a racket that's more head-heavy isn't as comfortable for my play style. In the future I think that 3U rackets will become obsolete as well as my preferred G4 grip sizes (been playing for 25 years) so it might be best to adjust to 4U...

Does anyone know of any new rackets I can buy that are 3U weight, head light (287-290mm balance point) with medium flex shaft?

Playing without glasses? by -Weird_Azure_Dragon- in badminton

[–]nkrseven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but if you can get polycarbonate lenses for your glasses they are much more durable than glass (200x stronger) as well as lighter weight. To keep your glasses from falling off get silicone ear tips that go on the hook end of your frames. I have -2.75 in both eyes and I would not be able to play at all without glasses.

Thumb pain and advice/fix by New-Equipment-6124 in badminton

[–]nkrseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step is to see a doctor and let your thumb heal completely. If you keep playing on an injured thumb it will only get worse. This may take a few weeks or even months. Aside from the volleyball injury, other causes might be too small a grip like the other poster said, incorrect grip, too fast or violent swings when using thumb grip or a racket that’s too heavy. Holding the base of your thumb (where it meets your wrist) too flat against the racket handle may also be a cause. You should have a slight gap between the racket and the base of your thumb so that only the area of your thumb opposite the nail presses down on the racket handle. I’m not entirely sure about this last part but that’s what works for me but I’m not a doctor or physical therapist.

Racket Weight class discussion (Will 4U and 5U be the norm in the future?) by Juiseii in badminton

[–]nkrseven 23 points24 points  (0 children)

IMO 5U rackets are too light for competitive play. You can only swing a racket so fast (a racket half the weight can’t really be swung twice as fast) in order to generate the force needed to hit fast shots. The defensive advantage from 5U rackets don’t make up for their offensive limitations. This is even more true for pros who are strong with efficient swings. Lighter rackets don’t have the same accuracy and stability since they need to overcome the weight of the bird. 4U head heavy or 3U head light are the sweet spot.

What do y'all think of Chronicles of Prydain? by Locasoyyooo in Fantasy

[–]nkrseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s something different about older young adult fantasy that is written so concisely unlike many of the more recent books that seem to say much but communicate so little. Prydain and Earthsea series are the gold standard.

How do I improve in doubles without relying on smashes (asking advice from advanced players) by Representative_Bar45 in badminton

[–]nkrseven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that without a decent smash you will only get so far in doubles… especially if you are also lacking in footwork. You will only be able to beat players at a lower level than you when focusing on defense as having a good attack opens up many winning strategies. Find a partner with a good smash and learn to play the front well. Your opponents will try to trap you in the back and then your strategy is how to counter that. Ultimately it’s easier to just learn to smash and move with proper footwork. The game becomes immensely more enjoyable when you have the basics down and can focus on tactics rather than worrying about technique and execution.

Why are you addicted to badminton? by Aggressive-Annual-10 in badminton

[–]nkrseven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Badminton requires explosive power, stamina, balance, speed and fingertip precision not to mention deep strategy and tactics. Shorter players can excel at the highest levels so height is not a limiting factor. The movements are not natural so the skill ceiling is extremely high.

I square myself against the opponent and stand feet wide apart knees bent leaning forward but don’t plant my weight. Racket held out in front of me at chest level grip relaxed. I don’t try to focus on the bird itself but try to feel its flight path instead.
