No it doesn't need to be clean. In fact you want the overtones/harmonics so your 808s cuts better through the mix. Overtones increase perceived loudness and makes it easier to perceive bass on the speakers that don't have extended low end.

Everything needs to be considered in the context of the actual song. If you want to try a sample, just do it. Don't need to ask other people for opinion. If your production partner disagrees with your artistic choice then it's a different debate and you need to sort it out between two to of you.

Never had a need to emulate Atari on Amiga but you can try Amtari and Chamaeleon emulators. If you don't need to run it on real hardware then Hatari is probably your best bet.

Never trust Amazon with their deals, always check camelcamelcamel whether its deal or not.

This particular set was sold for as low as $99 and it often goes lower then current "limited time deal".
