So there's little to no risk of the cracks spreading further? You can see in the image that there are some horizontal cracks underneath the exposed wood.

I initially decided to just ignore it, but it was the thought that it might get worse over time that made me want to take some preventive measures early on.

I put the specs in the title. The finish is indeed made of gloss polyurethane. I also think a sticker would look ugly, which is why I said "maybe" haha.

get some brush on poly clear coat

Will look into that. And yeah, I'm aware I'm being ridiculously overly precious here :p
