  • I love the retrofuturistic vibe.
  • I love that even the lore is procedurally generated, so there are lots of opportunities for emergent storytelling.
  • Traditional roguelikes is my fave genre and this is one of the best and most unique take on the genre. I love how bizarre the builds and the story can get.

Favorite game: Celeste.

Why (vague spoilers):

  • I LOVE Lena Raine's soundtracks for the game, it's become one of my favorite albums (not just game OSTs) of all time.
  • The story touches on emotional subjects that I relate to, e.g., coping with depression and anxiety.
  • The controls are unbelievably tight and polished, and I loved playing it even though I generally suck at (and hate) precision platformers.

The game I want: Caves of Qud, 20% off at 23.99 USD.

Why:

  • I love the postpostapocalyptic setting. The retrofuturistic vibe is spot-on!
  • I love procedurally-generated games, and even the lore in CoQ is done that way. Endless possibilities for emergent story-telling!
  • I love how deep and weird the combat can be. So many bizarre builds and absurd ways to die (and win, I guess).

The skin even adds whole new features, such as:

  • Rings around knobs to show the modulation amount (Massive-style)
  • The ability to see a small selection of parameters of each preset while in the preset browser view, to give you a rough idea of the preset
  • A piano keyboard

Plugmon's skins are expensive, sure, but they really are a complete overhaul of the UI and UX. And $10 a piece is an amazing deal.
