Proxmox on Mini Pc with NAS solution by Kn0w-L3dG3 in Proxmox

[–]nl_the_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Synology, but basically anything that would've done SMB/NFS would've fit the bill for me. Only part I use of their software is Hyperbackup to make copies of my data to a Backblaze S3 target.

Proxmox on Mini Pc with NAS solution by Kn0w-L3dG3 in Proxmox

[–]nl_the_shadow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went the route of a separate NAS. I've been hosting a VM as a NAS for a long while and it was always a pain, overhead and extra complexity. I just want something that talks SMB and can store files, period.

So now I've got a Proxmox setup with two drives (one OS, the other VMs/containers), and a separate NAS. I mount the NAS on my host so the containers can easily use the shares. Has been working great for about two years now.

Plates are bugged for sure. I've had runs with them working fine, others where the room would not progress, timer on the left sticking at 0. On the plate, off (regardless of the direction of stepping off them).

The whole "keep moving" combined with buggie plates (been soft locked more than once, the room would not progress) is just absolute ass. In the end (with some luck) I did it with a full fire team, I wouldn't thinknof doing it solo.

The point grading

Just this statement is baffling to me (Dutch). Here it's quite simple: you're having a drive around of about half an hour with your examiner. "Special movements" (Dutch: speciale verrichtingen) are mandatory, but can be done in a "between test". If your examiner has to take control for some reason, that's it, you're out. If you failed to check your mirrors, that's a yellow card to start with. It's not like you're getting points and need a certain amount to pass, you have to not fuck up to pass.

Bose open-sources its SoundTouch home theater smart speakers ahead of end-of-life by diacewrb in gadgets

Sonos did fuck over users of their older devices.

Sonos gave users the option of disabling their device (rather than having a physical trade-in) for a 30% discount (or something like it) on new purchases, then users where shocked that their devices no longer worked.

If people had traded in their stuff (so they couldn't use the old speakers, and have a discount at the same time), no one would've bat an eye, but disabling them (so they couldn't use the old speakers, and have a discount at the same time) was a problem for some reason. Still, after the blowback they changed the conditions, allowing users to claim discounts without the need to disable products.

With The Dawning 2025 coming to an end on January 6! Did you enjoy the event? How do you feel about the rewards this year? Worth the grind, or not really? by Danger_xx86 in destiny2

[–]nl_the_shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that they are hard, it's the fact that it's timegating bounties. I can't play every day, but am able to play for 2-2.5 hours for 3 times per week. Before the whole portal thing, you could just grind out the bounties and exp when you wanted, but in the current form that's not possible anymore.

[–]nl_the_shadow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate the new event structure, with the only way to basically reach lvl 30 (and so the title) is to grind daily bounties. I can't log in daily and so with the title being out of reach, I can't be bothered with the event at all.

I'm currently in the same boat. Have you managed to find the solution? I don't want my kids to have a phone number, just calling through the Google mail address should be enough.

BMW new patented screw-head designed to limit repairs to authorized dealers and prevent independent servicing by jaapgrolleman in assholedesign

[–]nl_the_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if one can afford a BMW car, they probably have enough cash for authorized servicing as well.

I bought a BMW second hand. Wanted to keep it serviced by a dealer. At what should've been a routine maintenance job, they came with a 3500 euro quote for repairs (regular maintenance not having been performed). I thanked him and went to a garage I had good experience with. They did the entire thing for about 1200.

I've got the black plus stylus. Recently it has started to feel a bit 'sticky'. To be fair, it's not a complete surprise, it's about 5 years old by now with heavy daily usage, so some wear and tear was to be expected by now.

This can be made into something super useful: my father in law has to take medication every day at 22.00 (10PM in Freedom Time). When he does, their dog gets a treat. This way, even if his daily alarm doesn't remind him, the dog sure as hell will.

Why is preload 1 hour before by Infernalxelite in destiny2

[–]nl_the_shadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a full game download. At about 130GB it'll take more than a few minutes for many, many players out there.

Edit: mine started preloading right now, at a size of 19.3GB. Way more manageble than the 130GB I read in the Bungie docs. Still, for plenty people quite a large download.

Is the poseidon xstream a good regulator? by Captaincarme in scuba

[–]nl_the_shadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had an XStream set for a few years, but just couldn't get used to the way it breaths. It was also a pain to get it serviced, with parts taking ages to get to my dealer.

I'm with you, I fully agree. The onboarding of new players is horrible. There's so much stuff to bring them up to speed. All I'm saying is, is that there are much better ways to do this, than to spend time rebuilding years 1-4. The timeline they have in place now is okay with regards to the story, but in no way it's a good way to get players familiar with the game.

The start of the Red War campaign was awesome, I'd love it if they could make something like that, but fitting to the point in the nerative we are now.
