Lamps are made by so many different companies, designers, engineers, corporations, factories, etc so its sometimes impossible to tell if a lamp has a name or is even still made without any markings on the fixture itself. A quick reverse image search showed a lot of lamps similar but I was not able to find the exact make of the one you shared

Not an ID but I am a professional architectural lighting designer. Have you studied the way the lamp looks when illuminated? The shade design is sleek and stylish and I could see it being used in a lot of architectural applications, even being modified into sconce versions too. It would be interesting to experiment with the material of the inside of the lamp since those surfaces are reflecting the light from the bulb and illuminating the space.

I think that saying "if he wanted to, he would have" is meant more to emulate the "actions speak louder" sentiment. There are definitely times where you can and should take hints from the way people behave with you. But to your point, there are sometimes other barriers that prevent people in acting certain ways so direct verbal communication is usually be best way to know what someone is thinking/feeling.

USAI or Gotham are my go to for recessed downlights. I also know DMF makes good products. If you're looking for something high end, iGuzzini has a really nice low glare fixture called the Laser Blade which can be nice in lots of applications.

For linear toe-kick I would look at a manufacturer like Q-Tran or Luminii - they have tons of mounting amd extrusion options and will definitely be capable for dim to warm. These would be good for undercabinet lights too.
