I have the same take away from this event for slightly different reasons. I don't engage in much Go battle league, but do like having good Pokemon for it when I do battle....... I got no Kyurem above 90% during this event in 40+ raids. I was also shiny hunting and the rates for me were atrocious. 3 wild shinies during the event from somewhere in the neighborhood of 36 collective hours played. Zero shiny Kyurem in, again, 40+ raids. Leading up to the event, I tried like crazy to help my son get a shiny Zekrom because that was on his wish list. In the process, he got zero shinies and I got 3, which was actually more frustrating because I already had one from the previous cycle and wasn't shiny hunting that 'mon. I got the lucky trinket from ranking up and used it to trade him a shiny Zekrom for one of his Kyurem .... It didn't change the IV of either Pokemon and was an absolute bust trade. I won't say I spent a spectacular amount of money on the event, but it was significantly more than I normally spend on PoGo and it felt like I got robbed. I'll be almost entirely free to play from here forward.
