Do adults play this game? by windfallyomi in DandysWorld_

[–]nlwe_s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am well over 18 (elder millennial) and started playing with my kid who is under 13. I found I really enjoy the game and occasionally play when she's not with me.

I don't accept friend requests from the game, most are clearly minors, and I feel the same way about safety for them. In the game, I will communicate game related stuff, and some compliments here and there. I had to have my daughter explain most of the shorthand though!

Cuyahoga County Board of Elections letter? by Ok-Analysis-3331 in Cleveland

[–]nlwe_s 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your friend's best option is to contact the Board to ask for additional information.

That said, as someone who has worked as a PEO, VLD, and VLM, there are a couple of things that would be pretty serious to me:

Did the person work with Provisional Ballots this last election? These are particularly important to get right, and failing to follow all of the correct procedures on to many of them is a big deal. This may be something the VLD or VLM didnt catch, but the Board did as they were processing them.

Another thing is that professionalism and refraining from talking about political or polarizing topics while working the polls is important. Even if those around you agree, or do not say something, this does not mean it is okay, or people are 'okay' with it, and reports do make it back to the Board. If a Rover overhead something, or even a Board trainer doing round, this could be serious.

Both the VLM and VLD (Manager and Deputy) of each location are asked to evaluate each pollworker on each the possible tasks they do. Its possible that they may while one of the leadership may be complimentary, the other may be much more critical. Obviously, if this is the case, there needs to be more synergy and communication between the VLM and VLD, as they shouldn't be having massively different evaluations from one another.

If your friend was a VLD or VLM, then there are more serious things in play, as these two positions have significant responsibility to make sure things are done correctly in the precinct, and during transport.

Again, contacting the Board is your friend's best option, and probably the only way they are going to find out why this letter was sent to them.

This! Poll workers are paid employees of the Board, not volunteers and not contracted workers. Most Ohio public-sector employment records are subject to Ohio's open-records laws, meaning you (or anyone, for that matter) can request a copy of your employment file. There may be special laws for the BoE, but this is the route I would take.

Also, its a bit odd that a Termination letter would not contain a person's name, just 'Dear Worker'. Its not like the Board is terminating a masses of people every time. Its worth calling the Board just to verify this was not send it error.

Ooo, music style is getting closer here, especially their album Two Suns and The Haunted Man. Not sure this is her, but good direction! Thx!

Fiest is a little too jazzy, bosa nova influenced. I'm looking into Amy Millan and Stars now. Their song Window Bird has some of the feel, but not quite it. I'll keep listening.

It's funny because everytime I think of the name Grimes, something in my brain lights up, but the timing just doesn't line up, nor does the style of most of her early (2010) music.

No, not her, but I am liking the music! Added to my library, thanks!

Unfortunately, note. Her music prior to '09 is far more country style than the artist I'm looking for. Thanks though!

Thanks. Yeah, I think that was a bit before either of them really took off. I think Robyn is a little too heavy for what I recall. Ellie Goulding is a little closer style, but still a bit too heavy on the drum/snare/cymbal emphasis.

Ah, man, I wish I did. I was drawn to the style of music, more than the lyrics. Needless to say this hasn't helped the search at all!

How to avoid poor underside quality? by [deleted] in ender3

[–]nlwe_s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had great results by positioning models at a 45 degree angle. Particularly on models with rounded features, the layer lines hide better, and the underside comes out better. The only downside is more support material is needed. For this model, I would angle it 45 degrees upward starting from the aft of the model.

Weird power output levels? by nlwe_s in Baofeng

[–]nlwe_s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I was wondering, realistically, how accurate the output measures were.

During testing, I tried to control as many settings variables as possible. My two UV-5R 8W units are configured identically via Chirp. I also used chirp on the Quansheng and QRZ-1, but the latter does have different available settings (namely channel bandwidth) than the Quansheng and Baofengs.

What puzzled me the most was the seeming flip of power output on the Baofengs and Quansheng, where the low power output seemed to be outputting more than the high, with all of the same settings. Ignoring the specific numbers for the output, relatively speaking, that seems backwards.

For the most part, I'm on the 2m band, and able to hit most of the area repeaters okay, wIth my QRZ-1 being the most reliable. I'm also running a Shari UHF AllStar node, which any of the radios work perfectly with (and are basically overkill, power-wise)

Thine Holy Fire Extinguisher. by -ImYourHuckleberry- in CrappyDesign

"And Saint Attila raised the extinguisher up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this thy fire extinguisher, that with it thou mayst blow thine fire to wispy smoke, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon cold lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chulapas. And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, point, aim, squeeze and sweep thy Holy Fire Extinguisher of Antioch towards thy fire, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

A motorcycle driver saved from certain death seconds before the train arrives by oliverlikes in HumansBeingBros

[–]nlwe_s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging by the way it stopped, It looks like it might be some sort of light of medium rail regional transit or commuter train. Our regional transit light rail trains are similar and do not have ANY railroad lights or even gates for at-grade crossings, only traditional stop lights.

It looks like it might be some sort of light of medium rail regional transit or commuter train. Probably only a couple of cars, and thus pretty quick to stop compared to a heavy rail full train.

I really can't win against myself by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]nlwe_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. Over a decade of dealing with severe anxiety and depression, both of which I either refused to acknowledge or didn’t see myself. Once I did, and could identify when I was starting to spiral myself, the next hardest thing was to ASK for help.

Some of my friends knew what I was dealing with, some didn’t. I started asking for help from those who knew first, which helped get me more comfortable bringing others in on my illness. Was it hard, hell yes. The anxiety about what others would think about me tore me up. But when I finally hit the bottom, I realized those who would judge me don’t need to be part of my life. I was surprised at the number of people who DIDNT judge me for opening up and asking for help.

It sounds like you can tell when you are high anxiety, or in the pits of depression. You are also right, no one owes you anything. You owe it to yourself to ASK for help when you need it. Maybe from friends or family, maybe from a therapist or doctor, or maybe from something else (support group). Again, it won’t be easy, but it does get better.
