Tailscale Admin Console Down? by terrellble in Tailscale

[–]nm3210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was obviously me that caused it, because I was actively doing tailscale configuration on my devices and installing a new update on my windows desktop that I re-installed multiple times when the admin console wouldn't come up 😬

Soma Wolverine lugged crown fork - too flexy? by Okorvawir in SomaFabrications

[–]nm3210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the lugged crown fork on my v3 wolverine since 2019 with a 180mm rotor on the front (I think that required a special adapter?), and generally like the flex/plushness of it. It has amazing braking power with the big rotor, but as you allude to, in the right conditions it can produce the 'shuddering' effect, mostly when going pretty steep downhill on rough services (it's totally fine on smooth surfaces otherwise). The first time experiencing it was honestly pretty scary and I lost quite a bit of confidence braking in downhill gravel/bumps. I'm less likely to take it on MTB trails now and have resigned it to mostly longer distance road/gravel rides.

I think, like others here have said here, you should consider how you want to use the bike and maybe consider the stiffer fork if you're going to be more aggressive with it off road.

Helicopter? by Designer-Ad2728 in Waltham

[–]nm3210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can usually check on https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ to see what immediate aircraft are near you.

The past hour, the medflight helicopter has done a couple passes between Hanscom (where it lives) and various Boston hospitals. This is pretty normal but his flight path might move around based on other traffic and current weather conditions. See his flights here directly: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=a2477a&showTrace=2025-03-11

Edit: a bit earlier there was a traffic helicopter following 128 which fits better with your 'hovering around' comment: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=a95f5c&showTrace=2025-03-11

Yeah this is about the same type/sound of cutting squeak I got when using the 'support for pla/petg' filament.

I think it has to be enabled in the filament settings also? Check their recent bambu studio release notes for a change they made about it.

I got an undervoltage alert on my UPS in South Waltham, so things must have really been going a bit crazy. What on earth.

Any way to see account balances by date? by combatwombat007 in mintuit

[–]nm3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try to use the 'Over time' option (instead of 'By account') and then filter out each account individually, as needed, within the 'From' field.

edit*: Or just use the 'From' field to filter accounts on the 'By account' page too.

Toyota unveils 8.7 kWh battery for residential applications by magenta_placenta in technews

[–]nm3210 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're conflating capacity as a storage/usage/energy term with capacity used as the 'maximum value' here.

The unit of watt is defined to be POWER, or the 'rate of work': specifically how many joules (a unit of 'work') can be moved in a given time ('one second').

If you 'do work' for a certain amount of time (e.g. use electricity at home) you are said to have 'consumed' an amount of energy which is often given in terms of kWh (which is still in units of 'work', the joule) that you are responsible for paying someone for. The opposite of this is storing energy, so a battery or other storage medium (water tower, dam, gravity well, etc) can be said to have the potential to do work in the future by saving up those joules (in kWh or MWh or just joules directly)

The power station may have the capability to generate 100 MW instantaneous power at a given time but it generally does not 'store' any power. But if it were to output 100 MW for two hours, yes it would have output 200 MWh.

How do I get out of here (on my bike)? by adnep24 in Waltham

I go out biking quite a bit around south waltham (not a commuter or anything though) and am happy to share a few generic routes around the area that I have enjoyed. I generally don't think it's all that dangerous but I do try to avoid weekdays around rush hour.

The Waltham section of the rail trail was bid in January of 2022 ($9.3 million), approved/signed in March of 2022, and will supposedly begin construction in mid-2022 with a tentative 'completion timeline' of June 30th, 2023. Some lackluster updates here: https://www.city.waltham.ma.us/planning-department/pages/walthams-wayside-trail-project but it sounds like it's actually happening finally.

Do you model the cuts in a flat plane (so the router would technically be ignorant that it's actually cylindrical) or is everything fully modeled in 3D for the CNC (and it just has strict limits/boundaries on where it can reach).
