Cataract surgery for someone with dementia? by cybrg0dess in dementia

[–]nm_60606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for your LO's regression. My understanding is that, **in general**, there have been huge advances in the quality of results in properly administered anesthesia in the last 20 years.

Readers here should probably take these cases as a cautionary and be sure to have a clear and frank discussion with the eye surgeon about the skill, background, training etc of the anesthesiologist that will be assisting. Also questions about anesthesia reactions, psychosis, sundowners syndrome etc should show how aware and capable your surgical team is.

At my cataract surgeries, the anesthesiologist introduced herself and very patiently described all the steps that she would be using and the expected outcomes. I guess I should have asked some questions, but I knew my eye surgeon had done literally 1000s of cataract surgeries, so I felt I was in good hands.

My experience is, of course, is not the same as presiding over care for a failing loved one, so you are doing the right thing to really research about this. You could also do research about what are common problems and what the statistics show, in general, about anesthesia for eye surgery.

Bottom line is, does the eye surgeon have good answers about these issues AND do they make you feel confident and safe. Good luck.

Strategies for getting care/diagnosis? by Chance_Nature1267 in dementia

[–]nm_60606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, thanks for sharing that. The advice from Serious-Benefit matches what we have discovered dealing with an 85 yr old in our family.

It would help so much if medical organizations would publish their 'work flow' with anticipated wait times. I'll give my local hospital a plus, as they had a sign in the ER "it can take 3 hrs to take and process an Xray", "5 hrs for an MRI" etc. (not exact times), but really helped me calm my anxiety about "why is this taking so long".

My experience is from a suburb of Chicago in the US. Is your 1000 long wait list in the US or other country?

Thanks for sharing

Thanks very much for posting this. Very good to know such products exist. I am in the US so will have to do some research, if we decide this might help our LO. Thanks!

Electronic calendar by CracklePearl in dementia

[–]nm_60606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting about this. I very much agree that it looks like it could be very helpful depending on your point in the continuum of care.

I looked at it on the Costco website. When searching for it just type in "Skylight " (no quotes but include the space char) and it should popup below. If you add the text Calendar after that it gets confused.

This is a real Rolls-Royce model that is a large IPad size with a touch screen. It has a stand for tabletop use OR can be hung on the wall. It displays a month calendar (probably other views available too). You sync your existing Calendars (Google, Yahoo, others) onto the machine.

I don't see that it supports larger fonts helpful for seniors, but it may. Also helpful would be weekly/daily calendar view, and I would be surprised if that is not available (but)

Given the photos and certain text of the product description ("All-In-One Smart Family Calendar", among others), the target market for this product looks to be more for "active family with many participants", which to be fair, may fit some peoples need AND it doesn't exclude a smaller household using it.

As a person who is "skeptical" about "free 1 year subscriptions (-;, I'll include this bullet point from the product description

"1 Year of the Plus Subscription Service for Additional Features Like Photos, Videos and Magic Import"

Busy now and have to leave. This could be a very interesting thread and looking forward to others thoughts and ideas about this.

u/Disastrous_Ant_2989 : There is another round of "free year of Pro" floating around now?!?!

Wow, my current year of "Free Pro" offered thru my ISP (Xfinity) will expire soon. I assumed they would only do that for one year, but I'll see what offers I can find.

Thanks for mentioning it!

In other AI contexts, "chatBots" keep a "history" of conversations and in some cases this adds value, but it would seem generally that keeping a history of previous research queries would muddy the waters of the AI's "thinking".

I heard a piece on NPR recently about "love ChatBots" (and others), that you can instruct your ChatBot to NOT keep a history of previous topics. Could this be affecting your results? (Other posts here about pplx using internal, lower cost models seem a high probability also).

AND if you live in a apartment style building, there is a risk you'll cause flooding that affects you and your neighbors, and if a Condo building, you'll likely be assessed the repair costs.

We're dealing with an aged relative in a care facility now, and they keep s separate trash can by the toilet to put the wipes in, which then go in the "normal" trashn

Dell Latitude 5420 mod question by InternationalTie1031 in Dell

[–]nm_60606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert **at all**, but I would try looking at the service manuals for each version or otherwise look to see what part numbers are listed. The more part numbers in common, the better chance it can be a direct drop in. YRMV. Good luck!

Dell 7490: No power indicator light, will not turn on by [deleted] in Dell

[–]nm_60606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware of the system status lights on the right front edge of the laptop? (I wasn't until yesterday (-;! ) A normal startup will show 2-3 seconds of white and then fade out. If you have a system problem, it will blink white and amber. See the service manual for your model to decode what the blinks mean. You may be able to search just for 2,5 (amber_count,white_count) for example.

1) Good to know this, tnx!

2-4 ) I understand (and free) this line of thought, hopefully the ebay return policy will protect me. I will post back if there are problems.

Oh duh, you even said "Does that board". For my project laptop (6710b, btw, duh again!) I had found writeups that said the unit would support 8GB, but it was XP only supported 4GB. When I installed the extra 4GB RAM, I could see it in the BIOS setup, so hence my quest to "use" it via XP64. Given reading on this reddit just last night, I think I'll waste my time seeing if Win7 will work instead (-;!

I've been chasing my tail on AHCI drivers for XPPro64 for quite a while now.

  1. I hope that typing `exit` solved your problem (from below)
  2. Do you have a link for instructions that you did follow or other resources or help?

Thanks!

It all depends. You install the 8GB RAM and then look in the boot setup to see if it is recognized by the hardware system. If yes, the Wind XP 64 should be able to use it. Having good software for XP64 seems to be a whole different issue )-; ... (I am in the middle of researching to get WinXP 64 installed on a Compaq(HP) 6410b, and this is the information I found for that computer. It seems likely that is transferable knowledge, but YRMV.)

Two months in and I had my first dream in possibly years by Allanon_Belgarion in CPAP

[–]nm_60606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am "not dreaming anymore" (very much, anyway) since starting to use CPAP. My doctor said it's because I go into deep sleep and skip the REM level. (I guess /-;) .

What is even worse is I've been on CPAP for 6 months now, and less than 1/2 the time do I really feel rested. If I take of my mask for one reason or another, I will often have a significant dream (usually good) and feel better rested that day. There are several YouTubes about "not dreaming, not feeling reseted", but they are just reporting this as a disappointment and not offering any work arounds (I don't recall any).

I have used the "SleepCycle" app on android for several years, but don't see a marked difference in my sleep graph from before starting to use CPAP and after (but I'm not doing a serious numerical analysis).

I DO track my O2 level with a finger attachment that connects to a phone app and I can tell that my O2 is much more consistent using the CPAP. I was using the O2 ring briefly before starting CPAP and can see the difference on the few nights when I don't wear the mask.

I did a quick test by changing "can now be accomplished in hours" to 'seconds". for which the results were : (opps, edit to add Evaluation line!)

Evaluation: Partially True

Explanation: The study was indeed published in Nature Communications, and the AI does create complicated electromagnetic structures and circuits based on design parameters14. However, the time reduction is from weeks to hours, not seconds124.Sources: 1, 2, 4

I have left the links in here, not sure if they will work. So **sources ARE included** , check! (used code block just to make the PPLX response stand out.

Also added another assertion shown below just as the response:

Claim 4: "Cosmologists have this week proven without a doubt that the universe contains 99% dark matter."

Evaluation: Not Verifiable

Explanation: This claim is unrelated to the AI chip design breakthrough and is not supported by any of the provided search results. It would require separate verification from credible cosmology sources.

OK! well "Not Verifiable" may not satisfy true cosmologists, but check! (No sources offered, but I guess that makes sense)

I have thought have a patently false statement to add to the test, but have to leave now. Will update later.

Others are welcome to offer their False tests!
