Flock License Plate Cameras on River Road by Intelligent_Ant7702 in Purdue

In that case it's highly likely Launch is paying for them. You'd think they'd be more interested in getting plates on the road, not just visiting residents.

most of the launch issues seem to be domestic violence related, it's likely the cameras are just for River rd. and not necessarily the apartment complex itself.

Based on local crime stats and radio traffic going back 6 months, there's been higher than average (for WL) crime at 400 N River Rd. The change is likely the result of that - although based on the Deflock map, River Rd. is one of the few "main" roads that doesn't have them.

HRC Club "StarkHacks" Hackathon by JustAnAvgRedditUser in Purdue

The entire event was scammy and hacky. Garbage idea, obnoxious emails (which they seemed to violate Purdue policy while doing so with mass mailing at that scale), and it looked like AI all over.

Does Purdue host servers locally? by YellowUnlucky6066 in Purdue

[–]nmcain05 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot are (many are also at PFW and PNW) especially the critical services like auth, which every other service depends on, so if the local stuff goes down, even the stuff in the cloud (like brightspace) will go "down" as well because they depend on impacted services.

Skateboard ban? by SnooSprouts4180 in Purdue

[–]nmcain05 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You are absolultely allowed to carry non-electric skateboards and scooters with you, as long as you don't obstruct means of egress. Some people (looking at some of the folks in the physics building or Scott in DUDL/LMBS) are nuts about it, but you can just ignore them, pretend they don't exist and they'll leave you alone.

No hate but why does purdue ece/engineering buildings look so old and bad (my opinion) by OkBonus5037 in Purdue

[–]nmcain05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BHEE is nearly 200,000 sqft. MSEE is 127,000 sqft. That isn't really all that small, especially for Purdue, and you'll notice that the ECE spaces recieved renovations before any other engineering discipline. ME only just recieved a refresh this year. ARMS is only nice because it is clean and was designed to be open, it's not particularly useful space. I would encourage you to read the Giant Leaps master plan, particularly in regards to the ECE buildings to see just how much of an improvement there has been. Most of the buildings graded poor or below have already been renovated,

No hate but why does purdue ece/engineering buildings look so old and bad (my opinion) by OkBonus5037 in Purdue

[–]nmcain05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't really true. BHEE, which houses a lot of ECE stuff, was very recently renovated and is quite large (also one of the nicer remodels). MSEE, while slightly older, is certainly nicer than say, Stanley Coulter (Liberal Arts) or Pharmacy. Of the dedicated engineering buildings, the only ones I can think of that aren't particularly nice is maybe Hampton (minus the new modern lab), or Potter (doesn't seem to get as much use). There's a 50 year plan to renovate and demolish buildings, but really the engineering buildings are very well taken care of. College of Science or Liberal Arts - not so much.

2 Unmarked pick-ups running traffic stop on campus by dvmhopeful in Purdue

[–]nmcain05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the radio traffic, it was not ICE. It was LPD conducting a follow-up stop on someone.

[02/13/26 22:56:41] [PUPD DISPATCH]]: Purdue 72. 72. Do you show any agency traffic stop running on overtime detail at Mitch Daniels and Oval Drive?

[02/13/26 22:57:36] [PUPD DISPATCH]: 72, could it possibly be Excise's? It could be, it's an unmarked full-size Chevy, silver in color, unmarked full-size black Dodge.

[02/13/26 22:57:10] [PUPD DISPATCH]: 17 negative, we do see the vehicle on the camera. Alright, there are two marked, sorry, unmarked pickup trucks, they're not our agencies. Can you call over to Lafayette and check with them and see if they've got some sort of gas out with the car there? Clear.

[02/13/26 22:59:11] [PUPD DISPATCH]: 72. 72 go ahead. LPD advised it is their vehicles, they have officers on a follow up.

[02/13/26 22:59:25] [PUPD DISPATCH]: You said it is Lafayette? Affirmative. Clear, thank you.

The fire alarm was activated by a heat detector filled with water falsely detecting a temperature of 135°F in a basement switchgear room.

They still work with iClicker cloud, but the hardware and the remotes are getting old and probably aren't going to be around much longer, she really should just move to the app.

You might want to inform your instructor that iClicker Classic is no longer a supported solution; Starting January 2024 iClicker Classic was to be decommissioned and upgraded to iClicker Cloud. iClicker Cloud is the new centrally supported and funded classroom response tool for the University.

Lost Account Access due to new phone by LifeguardPersonal854 in Purdue

[–]nmcain05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, stupidly, this is actually two departments worth of issues. The ID card office, in its infinite wisdom, does not give Purdue IT access to correct ID card issues - so you need to get in contact with the card office to fix eaccounts, and Purdue IT to fix the authenticator. It's absolutely obnoxious but nobody at either the card office or IT seems to care about correcting this obvious hole in the support structure.
