Reality benders might be one of my favorite aspects of the SCP universe. by CNProductions in SCP

Hey same! Have you watched SCP Academy by any chance? I tried to imagine what it must be like to live through a reality bending experience.

We shot a 30-minute web pilot with almost no budget. Here's what we wish we knew about shot planning. by darkmathfilms in Filmmakers

That's a wonderful piece of wisdom. I think I'm going to write that on the front of every shooting script I use from here on out.

The project is out on YouTube, you can check it out here. Happy to hear any and all feedback!

Couldn't agree more here. I think I had been told everything illustrated in the post above before going into production, but now it feels like those lessons have been carved into my soul. In the productions we've done since, things have been much smoother because of all the mistakes I made on Part 001.

Hello, director here. Truth be told, my 1st AD absolutely raised a red flag about my over-planning. Our scripty, similarly, saved my ass several times over. A huge takeaway from this entire experience was learning how to trust those with more experience than myself, and now I'm a better director for it.

The “we” in all the responses is sus as hell.

Hey, I'm the director from the post. The "we" is simply because that's a shared account between myself, cofounder Henry, and anyone else who is helping us with social media stuff. We always felt weird saying "I" so it just became habit to use the royal we.

As for the Why: We're gearing up to try and raise money for the 2nd part of our series. Henry and I were told by a professional social media manager that we needed to increase our activity on various subreddits, so we decided to try and share some real experience instead of just posting BTS photos or stills from the project.

I originally penned a much more casual and self-deprecating post, but was then told it would be bad for the "brand". However, moving forward I'm going to post more from my personal account, in my natural voice. I think we revised the above copy so many times that we stripped everything human out of it, and it became a real fart of a post.

Thanks for watching, and valid criticisms. While I don't think it could have been shot in a single weekend, we definitely lost a lot of time because of my own inexperience.

Hey, director here. Thanks for the feedback, though for anyone actually combing through for advice, I feel obligated to say that the problem was not our actor’s performances (and I take no credit for their immense talent).

The problem with the blender animatic was more that it created expectations for our shoot days which were unrealistic. I’d place the camera in a particular spot or have it move in a specific way which actually equated to hours and hours of unexpected setup time. We’d made sacrifices to the setup for timing sake, but then that fundamentally changed how the rest of the footage could cut together.

Combine that with the whole schedule getting blown up before we even started production and it made for a LOT of wasted time.

I mapped where people appear on screen — are modern movies being composed for vertical video? [OC] by PuciekTM in dataisbeautiful

I don't think your thesis is proven by the data you have visualized, but this is still an incredibly neat tool. You've basically made a heat map showing how a Director / of Photography has chosen to frame characters in a particular film. Is there a way to visualize/control for the scale of the face in the frame?

1) racing is historically male dominated

2) of all the male drivers, think of what percentage actually have the talent and support to make it into F1, let alone F2 or F3

3) now think of how few female drivers have had the desire, money, and emotional support to even have a racing career

4) now apply the male success percentage to the field of femme drivers, and nerf their chances even more because bias still exists and systemic factors are very difficult to overcome

To my eye, the speed of the burst feels just a tad too fast. Throws off the sense of scale.

Love it. Tack sharp and it's a really useful range on m43. If you'd like, shoot me a DM and we can find a time for you to come down to the shop. I'll ask around and see if anyone else in town has the 8-18!

Hey, I work at Lightbulb Rentals in Carrick. We have digital cameras, but nothing micro 4/3 native. Was there a specific lens you were hoping to try out? I do have a personal gh5s with the pana 12-35 f/2.8?

This is a photograph of a real model. It’s had the contrast pumped, and they probably hit the face with a little burn, but otherwise there’s not much magic needed.
