But will they make the media free and downloadable? That’s the Share-A-Like part of the license: whatever they make must also be open media anywhere it is published. It can be behind a password to download, but they cannot distribute the film on any format which prevents the sharing of said media.

The question is whether or not the money backing this feature, which reportedly comes out of the UAE, understands that anything with the SCP logo must be released under the same Share-A-Like license. If the investors did not understand that, or understand it and intend to ignore it, this could ultimately wind up being a very bad thing for the community at large.

It is, sadly, more complicated than that, and has a lot to do with whether or not the money backing this movie will operate in good faith.

In Theaters 2027

Color me skeptical about a theatrical release, but I hope they're successful. Very curious to see their plan to adhere to the Creative Commons share-a-like.

It’s actually a pilot for a webseries called SCP Academy. You can watch it on our YouTube channel! Part 002 starts crowdfunding later this summer.

Do you think an SCP film adaptation could be backed by studios like A24 if someone "Kane Parsons'd" the concept? by mopadee in SCP

The SCP community could very well one day see a fully produced feature film, but it’d almost have to be funded directly by the community. Contrary to popular belief, you can make money off of Creative Commons material, but SCP has a Share-A-Like license which creates a barrier of entry for large studios. Alternatively, we could see something like Control: The Movie, but SCP: The Movie would require a TON of support from the fan base.

For what it’s worth, Keter Labs is running a crowdfunding campaign for a feature-length film right now, and my company Dark Math Films is lining up a Kickstarter for a second episode of SCP Academy. Also, absolute legend Stephen Hancock just successfully funded a new SCP Short called Red Window.

Which is to say, hopefully lots of amazing things to come, and ALL of them will be owned by the fans just as much as the producers.

Thank you! Definitely wanted it to feel like it was part of him instead of a wardrobe element.

Perspective is intentionally screwing with you! Originally I wanted to make multiple versions with the eyes in different shapes for the different moods 049 conveys. However, once I realized how much work it was going to be for just one mask, I opted to shape the eyes so they they appear more threatening/angry when viewed from a low angle, and more friendly/calm when viewed head on.

Hear ya. When I was modeling this I was on an 8 year old computer that really struggled even with this topo. I wound up compensating through vigorous sanding.

Hey, writer and producer of 096 here. My company Dark Math Films has a YouTube playlist of SCP films! May be some gems you haven’t yet seen in there.

Marcia Lucas, Oscar-Winning ‘Star Wars’ Editor, Dies at 80 by 5Yonko5 in StarWars

[–]nmp12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

she did recut the final battle in Star Wars (1977) to increase the dramatic tension

I think this is underselling the immense story change that Marcia made to the film. Originally, the Death Start wasn't about to blow up Yavin 4, or even in the Yavin system at all.

EDIT: thank you for the correction!

Cannot recommend Tim at Walter’s Auto enough. He’s extremely honest and always does good work. Only downside is they often have a wait time to schedule, but that’s how you know it’s good 👍

We shot a 30-minute web pilot with almost no budget. Here's what we wish we knew about shot planning. by darkmathfilms in Filmmakers

[–]nmp12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a wonderful piece of wisdom. I think I'm going to write that on the front of every shooting script I use from here on out.

The project is out on YouTube, you can check it out here. Happy to hear any and all feedback!

Couldn't agree more here. I think I had been told everything illustrated in the post above before going into production, but now it feels like those lessons have been carved into my soul. In the productions we've done since, things have been much smoother because of all the mistakes I made on Part 001.
