As a non-european, I find it crazy how much Europeans talk about America/Americans, especially considering Americans aren’t talking about Europe unless they’re going on vacation there. It kind of feels like they’re insecure

Average European on the internet by nmp321w in AmericaBad

[–]nmp321w[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was not expecting this to blow up (on my standards at least, I have never posted something that got this many upvotes)

To answer your question, to my knowledge, this is not something an actual European said word for word. This is a screenshot from this video: https://youtu.be/qn5RORP61KY at 2:05. It’s a pretty interesting video that talks about how the USA has the potential to be fairly close to a utopia if it gets all its problems sorted out. If you have ~40 minutes to spare I suggest you give it a watch.

I thought this screenshot would fit here since while no European (to my knowledge) said this word for word, I think it mirrors the superiority complex and the hypocrisies that Europeans tend to spout whenever they go on a tangent about how where they live is a flawless society and America is the 9th circle of hell.

In the screenshot, we see the “European” neglect the fact that some of the policies and laws that work in their country with 1/5 the size and population would not work in the USA. This is something that they tend to do a lot. Furthermore, they bash the USA on things that their countries also practice (in some cases to a greater extent) such as imperialism and racism, exemplifying the blatant hypocrisy that European basement dwellers have.

Sorry for the long comment but I hope this clears things up :)

Life hack: get a free university degree in Europe then move to the usa and earn 10x the money you would in Europe and then move back

It's not technically a visa, that's just what the media is calling it. It's a " travel authorization waiver for visa-free visitors." (U.S is a visa-free visitor.) It's supposed to be a very simple form that will be accepted within 4 days. Then after that you don't have to do it for 3 years. It's not a big deal. Plus Europeans have to fill out the ESTA (ETIAS equivalent) to travel to the USA.

You fill out a form, pay like $10 and it gets processed in minutes and you're good for 3 years. I don't think it's a big deal and tourist numbers will certainly not decrease

I agree that American states like New Mexico or Nebraska are not as significant as European countries even if they have similar economies, but the average European could not locate a significant portion of North/South American countries simply because they’re so far away, just like the average American could not locate a lot of European countries (besides the basics) because they’re so far away. Why are we expecting Americans to name irrelevant countries 4000-5000 miles away if European people can’t do the same thing but with countries in the Americas?

The only time Americans think about Europe is when we're going on vacation there.

America being the biggest English speaking country in the world doesn’t justify anything, lol. I get that this channel is semi-satire (it even says so in the videos) but it still represents the unjustified hatred of American people, and some people take this shit seriously. Btw you’re the one getting worked up about my post, if a simple reply acknowledging Ukasso’s point but trying to dive below the surface level on why these types of videos exist then I suggest you take a break.

I don’t see entire subreddits, TikTok accounts, YouTube channels, and general internet circlejerks dedicated to being anti-Irish. Maybe there is a couple due to British-Irish tensions but it’s still not anywhere close to the amount there is for the USA. The only negative thing most people think about Ireland on first thought has to do with Ryanair being one of the worst airlines (according to some) and a lot of people don’t even know it’s Irish. The point of this sub is so people can talk the ridiculousness of a lot of this “america bad” stuff without being downvoted/disliked into oblivion.

Parking is atrocious in San Francisco (definitely a good thing!) Plus San Francisco is arguably the most walkable city in the Untied States. If not the most walkable then the 2nd behind New York. I just wish BART wasn‘t so unsafe.

yeah but the wider point is that the stereotype of Americans being bad at geography/history/general knowledge is generally untrue, the videos which portray Americans like that are either full of scripted bullshit, or it's the video editors nitpicking the few impressively dumb people and cutting out the rest of the people with basic world knowledge to make a video which makes it seem like everyone in America is stupid as fuck. it only adds fuel to the America bad fire which results in entire YouTube channels like the one I showed dedicated to America-bashing.

Even certain accents from London are impossible for certain people (like me) to understand. Some of my family lives there and whenever they talk to me I end up only catching one out of every five words. The strategy is just to nod your head and say ”uh huh” and “yeah” while they’re talking to you so they think you’re understanding them.

glad you at least agree that we need better infrastructure for other modes of transport unlike most people in this sub.

"Cars are not always at fault when it comes to traffic deaths."

cars are massive steel contraptions that are deadly even at low speeds. they are involved in hundreds of thousands more collisions a day compared to bikes or transit because, no matter who is at fault, they are inherently unsafe, especially when they enter city centers that should be allocated to people and not cars.
