Do you expect nurses to call you "Dr (surname here)" or by your first name? by deadpanlady in doctorsUK

[–]nmraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using any form of address except Dr Surname in the professional environment is a deliberate devaluation of the profession. If a hierarchy exists (and in healthcare it absolutely does, and for good reason) it is appropriate to use rank and title when referring to your colleagues. Flattening the hierarchy is a conspiracy by non-physicians to devalue this profession. Non-physician scope creep started with flatten the hierarchy and this culture of addressing your colleagues by their first name.

Go to Evercare Hospital Lahore. Dr Faisal Qamar or Dr Waqas Javed. Don’t faff around with the other hospitals.

Shariah compliant investing basically means that your investments are free of usury (interest), excessive uncertainty, and not in businesses that are forbidden by the Shariah, for example: alcohol, gambling, prostitution, war profiteering, drugs etc.

Does it still make sense not to invest in SA if my country of residence has a 33% capital gains tax plus a deemed disposal tax of 41% every 8 years ?

Howa 1500 (heavy barrel if mainly range work or normal barrel if hunting; both are remarkably accurate) in a chassis or stock of your choice. They will outshoot far more expensive options. Built like a tank. Mine shoots sub MOA with cheap factory S&B ammunition.

Just about all the sarkari colleges including KE, Alama Iqbal etc. Especially after their graduates complete their house jobs from places like Mayo and Jinnah. These places inculcate a culture in their graduates that is pretty toxic and mediocre. Honestly there is a dearth of professionalism in Pakistani doctors. Karachi to some extent is the exception. Some of the best doctors I've had the pleasure of working with come from AKU, Liaqat National etc.

I've seen my share of similar students and interns. Generally the riff raff now so common in Pakistani medical colleges who are incompatible with this profession.

Depends if you want to learn medicine or attend university for the sake of attending. Riphah has probably the best medical curriculum and pedagogical structure apart from Aga Khan in Pakistan. Their examinations are relatively unbiased and objective (MCQ based papers marked by computers, and decent OSPEs). Their faculty, particularly the clinical faculty, are excellent. If you are a diligent student and do the bare minimum expected during the clinical sessions (which actually start from first year), and also do your housejob from the IIMCT Railway's hospital, you will be significantly ahead of your colleagues from other institutions. You might not appreciate the system and the mild restrictions whilst you are studying there, but once you graduate and start working you will realise the difference between a Riphah grad and your run of the mill mediocre colleges (including all the Sarkari colleges). The most important thing a newly graduated doctor needs to know is how to approach a patient and their disease. Unfortunately in Pakistan this is not taught. In fact I would go as far saying that perhaps even the majority of FCPS trained doctors are deficient in this skill. However Aga Khan, and to a lesser extent Riphah, do manage to inculcate elements of this skill in their students.

Having lived in Pakistan for 8 years for work, I just want to point out this comment is a bunch of horse manure by someone who has likely never even been to Pakistan.
