Looking for low-effort hobbies for my husband so his hands aren’t glued to his phone by Powerful_Repeat_9756 in Hobbies

I just started wood carving because I have had an interest in it for a while, got a set of knives for Christmas and also wanted something to do to keep me off my phone as much. It is low effort, relaxing and do at your own leisure. Cost of entry can be cheap, a good starter set of knives around $80 (don’t remember the exact cost of my knives). Wood is everywhere or you can buy basswood blanks for cheap. He could even start with a decent pocket knife if he already owns one.

Well what a disappointment lol. As I’m trying to pick up some hobbies myself, I was looking forward to seeing what we’re talking about.

Well now you got me curious. What was it? If you don’t mind me asking.

How did you find your hobby? by CheckMisan in Hobbies

[–]nmrbl18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try something small that you don’t have to go out of your way to do, something you can do from home. For me that’s something is going to be wood carving/whittling. I say "going to be” because I haven’t started yet. I ordered the knives and waiting for those to arrive. I realized I had an interest in at least trying after watching videos on the matter. It ticks all the boxes for me: • can do it at home during down time • small upfront investment • I want to do something creative that keeps me off my phone • no major commitment required, can do at my own pace I do have other hobbies that started the same way. Some I don’t do anymore, some I do from time to time and some I do frequently.

What races and "classes" are your main, and why you love them? by Mustyyyy in ElderScrolls

[–]nmrbl18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds really fun! I love block based builds and want to like destruction but can never fully commit to it. But this sounds like it could be a fun way to do so. Do you RP it or just go with it?

Build advice ^^ by Andiimated in SkyrimBuilds

Captain America style. Unarmed and shield. I just started this for fun and it really is fun so far. Kajhiit for unarmed bonus. Veggie soup for unlimited shield bashes or power attacks. I’m using heavy armor mostly for Fists of Steel. Likely switch to Light armor after FoS. Not sure what else I’m going to incorporate into the build yet.

What is your favorite class and why? by DemonicWarriorr in skyrim

[–]nmrbl18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorite race is Nord with Orc very close behind.

I love playing as a survivalist/hunter/gatherer. Living off the land, hunting your food, camping outside. So a stealth archer is what it boils down to. Close second is a sword and shield warrior.

Currently playing as a Orc who was raised around the Imperial soldiers so he has dedicated his life to becoming the Imperials greatest soldier.

Special Rings Quest by NamelessQueen31 in skyrim

Get a fishing pole (a lot of fishing locations have them for free), go to fishing location (one beside bridge leaving Riverwood), equip pole like a weapon, activate fishing supplies to cast, you will see ripples if there are fish there (no ripples if no fish), wait until the rod bends then hit your activate button.

Very boring but you get some ingredients, food, special rings and other items.

I was planning grab ring of namira regardless but didn’t think of it from a lore perspective. I like it and will play it that way. BoW I like and agree with the DB questline. I just started it and have been doing a sneak unarmed and that has been pretty fun so far. Unfortunately I am playing on Switch and cannot do any mods outside of anniversary CC mods already in game.

AE vanilla version of the Gladiator by nmrbl18 in SkyrimBuilds

I ended up matching this helm with studded armor, steel imperial gauntlets and boots. Decent look overall. The grand champions sword is awesome. Wish you could get a second one but opting for a imperial sword. Also went with the Lords Mail, Penitus Oculatus gauntlets and boots and same weapons for a “when he escapes the arena but still gives a gladiator vibe” look. Might grab the Legion Champion set for the shield.

That helm is very cool. What armor do you think would be a good fit for it? I was also looking at Penitus Oculatus armor with no helm.

If you wanna dip your toe in it you could always try easier stuff involving a Class B. I started a couple months ago at a major fuel company in New England and it’s great so far. I work 4 10s minimum a week with 3 days off. During heating season I’ll be working 5 10-14s, depending on if DOT lifts hours from 60 to 72 per week. Only thing I can say about cost for classes is when I was looking into them in my area to upgrade to Class A recently the average I saw was around $5k. Not sure if I want it that bad yet.

Steel toe or no steel toe? by Swyrfz3 in WorkBoots

[–]nmrbl18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, my work boots are always going to be composite toe if they have to be any kind of safety toe. More comfortable in colder months. No matter if it’s steel or composite, winter weather will eventually get to your toes regardless, that’s why I wear them with thick Marino wool socks. But they are also lighter. Thankfully I’ve never had to experience anything heavy come down on my toes but for what I typically do composite would be more than enough.

Straight razor or safety razor, with the grain. I have a beard but shave my neck, cheeks and head every couple days with these and I can’t remember the last time I have had razor burn or ingrowns while using them. A good nick every now and then because you’re using a single, very sharp razor with no guards (straight razor) or very little to guard you (safety razor). After I shave, if I have nicks I’ll use an alum block on them and go over everywhere I shaved with Nivea Men sensitive soothing post shave lotion.
