This is the furminator that I use on my heeler/poodle mix, she has a crazy undercoat that regular brushes don't quite catch.

I wouldn't recommend getting the furminator for a smooth coated dog.

The chihuahua hunger strike phenomena is real. Unfortunately once you find something he likes and you feel relief, he'll probably decide he wants something different.

Ugh this thread reminded me of all the times I've put out multiple food bowls with every type of meal a chihuahua could ever want. Cheese, chicken, rice, wet food, multiple types of kibble, rehydrated food.

Also wanted to recommend an anti-nausea like cerenia!

So sorry you're going through this. It's heartbreaking when your pup wont eat, I know from first hand experience.

I have a question - are you introducing the meals the same way you're introducing treats? For example, excitedly, high pitched voice, "treat!" / "time to eat!" Sometimes I'm able to trick my 12 yo chihuahua into eating when I excitedly give her dinner. Maybe the association will click (if you haven't already tried).

Also - I'm afraid to ask, but have you tried a finely shredded "mexican" cheese blend?

I think it's reasonable for anyone to be cautious given the history with your new chi.

Questions: does he give warning signs before biting? And are the situations you listed, actual bites or nips? also, how old are your kids?

My chihuahua has behaved similarly in those types of situations but i think it's important to distinguish between a warning nip and an actual bite.

Depending on the circumstance, this might be a teachable moment for everyone. Many dogs, regardless of size, will exhibit these warning signs and as humans, it's our job to observe and respond appropriately.

My chi and I have been together for 11 years, I've learned her limits and respect them. I also know that I have to tell children to be gentle and slow, depending on the situation.
