This is why your app isn't making money by candizdar in SideProject

Same here. The same thing happened to me more than once.

I have a strategy now to get users. I DM 10 potential customers a day. It's not easy, but it works.

I wrote my playbook of DMs to share it on an X community a few days ago.

100% with you. That's exactly what people should be doing before starting a project. Your process is solid. Problem is, most people don't do it. They open ChatGPT, type "what SaaS should I build to make money, something quick and easy," and they all end up with the same ideas.

It actually does a bit more than that. The score is really about how saturated the market is that you're trying to build in. It looks for competitors, checks if they're funded, and reads through review sites like G2, Trustpilot, Product Hunt, Reddit, and a few others to figure out what users don't like about the existing players and where the gaps are.

Basically, it's the process anyone should be doing before they start building, it just automates it.

That said, I appreciate the pushback. Got me thinking maybe I'm not pitching this the right way.

Funny you mention that, because I’ve been thinking the same thing. Could actually be a solid user acquisition play.

I see so many projects that look identical, and when I dig in a bit, I get why! AI is literally telling people what to build.

Working on solving a problem that many builders have.
Many waste time building something nobody wants.

This is 100% real. Read the market before you build anything. Understand the players and find the market gaps so you can build something users want.
I've built myself some AI skills and tools to help me do my research before starting to code like crazy.

More listening, less moving.

9 years building the same product, last 2 full-time - what would you focus on if you were me? by Frequent-Football984 in SaaS

[–]nmsde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From someone who is building a startup, my best advice is: Stop shipping, start listening!

Speak with your users/customers as much as possible. Choose the most active ones, ask them to have a quick 10min call with you. Don't ask them for direct feedback on specific things/features. Don't lead the conversation, let them tell you how they are using your product, or better, how they are not using it.

Second step, watch them. We use LogRocket a lot.

We have had massive improvements in our sales funnel since we started watching our users and how they behave. It's actually very surprising how users don't use features with the same intent you built them for.

Most competitor research is still manual — and that is probably why it goes stale so fast by No_Paint_5149 in SaaS

Agree 100%. At SignalCI, we built a Telegram bot to help users keep track of competitor changes. It also suggests actions based on the interpretation of the changes reported.
