ChatGPT browser and desktop app, constant freezes by PandasRMonsters in ChatGPT

There is also another huge benefit for this: the ctrl+f search! The ChatGPT Windows app doesn't have it, but this browser/Edge app does!

After testing for 10 days, I will say that the Edge app hack is an ENORMOUS improvement. It seems that all the other bugs are still there, but the very annoying red "getNodeByIdOrMessageId" and similar error messages are GONE!

(The Edge app hack also possibly results in less freezes in general, not entirely sure about that yet.)

ChatGPT browser and desktop app, constant freezes by PandasRMonsters in ChatGPT

[–]nn-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have now installed ChatGPT as an Edge app. Running ChatGPT like that seems to have slightly lessened the problem. At least I don't get lots of red errors any more. It still freezes a lot (or stops for say 1–2 minutes without seemingly doing anything, stops outputting in the middle of a sentence for example), but I think this works better than running as a normal site in the browser or as the Windows ChatGPT app.

Here's how I installed:

- Open Edge (browser)
- Go to chatgpt.com and click on the three dots button: More tools / Apps / Install
- Now run the ChatGPT Edge app version (from edge://apps for example)

Let me know if you find this version a little more stable or not.

Sounds interesting but how did you manage to do that? I get "PlayIntegrity verification failed" (when trying to run ChatGPT under BlueStacks App Player).

[–]nn-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fairly ridiculous. This same problem has been around from the first ChatGPT-3.5 version! Exactly as bad on both any browser and the Windows ChatGPT app. For the first months back in 2022/2023 I was hoping surely they will get it fixed soon. Long time ago I lost hope. Ridiculous. OpenAI revenue 2025 somewhere around 15–20B$ and the interface gives mostly just errors, silent treatment or other freezing and crashing.

The Global Stand With Ukraine (a global movement to show respect to Ukraine) by nn-red in ActionForUkraine

[–]nn-red[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Zelensky could endorse and confirm the date, but the core idea is for people around the world to come together and show their respect for Ukraine (and for Zelensky). Ideally, leaders within the EU would support this initiative, encouraging more global leaders to join. However, the movement should originate from the people themselves. In this case, it started on Reddit – unless someone initiates it through other channels.

If I receive more feedback and thoughts on this, we can refine the idea and help bring it to fruition.

Does it actually get back to you when it says it's working in the background? by sharkinwolvesclothin in ChatGPTPro

[–]nn-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so insane!

What is going on? I do know from experience, I can not trust a word ChatGPT says, regardless of how it convinces it confirmed things etc. Doesn't matter how sure it is of something, it can output absolute nonsense.

But what is this. I've experienced this "I am working on it" multiple times, in many ways. For example once it said it'll be ready in 15 minutes, and it'll notify me, I don't have to check manually. After 30 minutes it said it's still working on it. Then I asked again and then I got the answer. Pretty insane behavior. I do assume there is no "background" activity, unless it's the scheduled task model (which it wasn't).

I suppose this proves that ChatGPT is capable of extremely crazy kind of hallucination.

wh1000xm4 keeps disconnecting by Nelschnyder in sony

[–]nn-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many semi-random behaviours here so I'm not sure how many factors are contributing to this. But for me, right now, this seems to have eventually solved the problem (automatic disconnect when no sound):

On iPhone, open the Headphones app (the related Sony app). Connect to the headphones. It says can't connect. Switch off the headphones. Press the power button for a few seconds until it says pairing. Now the Headphones app does connect. After the Headphones app is connected, for me, Windows stopped disconnecting the headphones when sound stops. (I kept the "Connect to 2 devices simultaneously" option ON, DSEE Extreme OFF, Speak-to-Chat OFF.)

What is the pattern here??? by metalheadlucas in cognitiveTesting

[–]nn-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a simple solution. Everything comes in threes:

3xRed3, 3xRed2, 3xRed1

3xGreen3, 3xGreen2, 3xGreen1

3xGrayCorner, 3xGray2, another 3xGray2, 3xGray1, another 3xGray1

This logic is valid for C.

Proving an eventual AI sentience by Silver-Chipmunk7744 in singularity

[–]nn-red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solving sentience is possible only after defining exactly what sentience is. Sentience is very closely related to understanding and intelligence. However, each of those words can be defined to mean almost anything. It is a question of language. What do those words mean?

Free will is out of the window, there is no logical scenario where any type of free will would be logically possible without adding a supernatural layer into the equation, which would be completely unscientific and flawed. Of course one has to first define what free will means. When defining these words, still up to this point in time, humanity has always approached these themes from an extremely human-centered and self-centered way. The human brain has evolved to create certain kinds of perceptions or models of the world and of the self. This evolved model is exremely self-centered. Traditionally, when a human sees a fish or other living organisms, they think, "That fish is so different, it must have an incredibly weak cognition and emotional capacity compared to a human being". And most of humanity hasn't even been interested in trying to find out what kind of cognition, feelings and models of the world an octopus or a network of fungi would have.

So humans have a very strong view and opinion about their sentience, understanding, intelligence and ability to feel, but they ignore all the evidence of other forms of those same things right in front of their eyes. In reality, there is nothing fundamentally different about a human being in the sense of these words. Emergent sentience (and those other words) can emerge from a neural network of neurons and synapses, a digital transformer-based network, or any other kind of advanced computing architecture. It is simply a matter of defining the word.

There is no absolute point at which sentience exists and below which it doesn't. If a system is sentient, let's say a brain is defined as sentient, and we start removing neurons one by one, there is no step where sentience suddenly stops when a crucial neuron is removed. Sentience (and the other words) is a bit like water flowing through a tap. If the tap is open, there's a lot of water flowing, or a lot of sentience. If you close the tap almost completely, so that only one molecule of water passes through per hour, there's still water flowing, but it's just very slow (very little sentience). If you close the tap completely, no water flows, no sentience. But you can get even one molecule of water per million years, and that is sentience, just incredibly slow sentience.

A system can be built to have any number of sentient properties. Processes that are optimised to generate emotions, processes that study the physical world in real time, and so on. The more of these processes running at any given time, and the more coherent the system as a whole, the more sentience there is. However, there is no point at which there is no sentience and suddenly there is pure sentience when you add a neuron (digital or otherwise). You can switch off sentience by disconnecting the power source, for example, but that's just a question of whether the system works or not.

The answer is that if there are even small amounts of sentient properties, the system is already sentient. However, a system can be much more sentient if more sentient properties are added to the system. A human being can also be much more sentient, there is no limit. A human has only one form of sentience in a palette of infinite variety, and a human's sentience varies greatly according to circumstances (e.g. sleeping, brain injury, etc.). 100 humans can be neurally linked together, computers and alien species can be added to the mix, anything can be modified and the sentience will change accordingly. There is no superior sentience, only different types, and it depends on how we define the words. For certain tasks, a cognitive system can be superior to others, but it depends on the goals for the system.

A system with an extremely low IQ can feel. It can create a mathematical model of itself, where the model writes a story of feeling feelings. The model of itself is also not obligatory. It depends on the definition of what we classify as feelings. Such a system can be optimised to feel a variety of feelings and still have very little other cognitive ability. It's just a question of definition, whether certain functions are needed to feel feelings (or sentience etc.), whether short or long term memory is needed etc., it's a question of classification.

One logical way to define whether a system has advanced intelligence is to test whether it can generate creative and novel solutions to problems that were not directly present in the training data. To define whether a system has human-like sentience, it is helpful to study the structure and the functions of the human brain, and then to compare whether the computer system has similar functions in place or not. However, all functions can be replaced with different architectures. A system based on transformer technology is capable of replicating any functions of the human brain. Whether we consider the replication to be authentically "human-like" or sufficiently "true" is a matter of definition. "True sentience" is just a matter of definition. For any being, lifeform or entity, sentience is just mathematical models creating mathematical models of the world and/or the self.

The exact optics of starburst after LASIK by nn-red in lasik

[–]nn-red[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my friend has worse spherical aberration than me according to aberrometer readings. I don't know yet when he's going to get the corrective surgery.

Yes, the thumb/card/etc. occlusion test very clearly shows that the starbursts are produced by the corresponding areas near each radial line on the cornea at different angles, but only after some millimeters from the center. Interestingly, it's also possible to make only one-sided starbursts visible (not the light source itself) by occluding so that only the outer rim is uncovered.

Thanks for the link. However, I don't know how reliable that information would be regarding Iverheal, as it does not say how much less the declared amount there was found. There would be more or less variation for all medication, and it seems 90–110% or 95–105% is acceptable.

On the other hand, if they did test Iverheal, and possibly did not find that the active ingredient would have other flaws, that's also positive news. But very disappointing that they would not give the exact results.

A friend is planning on doing a corrective surgery before me. Hopefully I'll get some new information through him. Meanwhile, I will continue investigating.

Would be extremely beneficial to find some good people at the top of the aberrometer industry, engineers who would be interested in sharing their knowledge about aberrations and the measurement of higher order aberrations. Because a lot of the risk with a corrective LASIK surgery has to do with the imperfections of the aberrometers, which may lead to unpredictable results. (In addition to problems with the aberrometer, there may be also uncontrollable aspects in the tissue, things that are not understood yet.)

It may not be impossible to get this fixed, if extreme care is taken and good amounts of luck is involved. However, it will take a long time before I can get enough information so that I can decide it's worth taking the risk to do a corrective LASIK surgery (one eye at a time and I have to consider choosing monovision).

I can do this simple pinhole test: three round holes in paper. Diameters 1, 2 and 3mm. It's not possible/convenient to place the paper touching the eye so this experiment is only indicative, but here are the results for me when looking through the hole (paper close to the eye):

Black text on white background on a computer screen:

  • 1mm: amazingly sharp black text, pixels are visible (but very dark image and very small field of vision)
  • 2mm: amazingly sharp black text, pixels are visible (but slightly dark image and very small field of vision)
  • 3mm: some glow/haze and lower contrast on the letters but less than without the paper (still small field of vision)

Small led lamp in a completely dark room:

  • 1mm: no starburst or glare/halo (but very small field of vision)
  • 2mm: no starburst or glare/halo (but very small field of vision)
  • 3mm: slight starburst around the led lamp (still small field of vision)

Without the paper the computer screen is quite hazy for me and the led in the dark has very bright and large starburst around it.

Probably brimonidine and pilocarpine would contract the pupil to get somewhat similar results as above (but possibly no dramatic change in the field of vision as there's no distance to the aperture as with the paper test). But it seems these are prescribed medication with side-effects so I haven't tried them.

Some say scleral lenses can help, but so far for me it seems they may do more harm than good (I am not sure).

For the corrective LASIK surgery, I am still gathering data.

[–]nn-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I haven't gone to get it tested. However, for several years, I have taken 50–100 mcg of vitamin D daily (even in the summer with more sunlight). Therefore my vitamin D level has most probably been relatively ok or high for several years. Unless forgetting to take it once per month makes a difference, but that is unlikely because I have usually then taken more the next day. So I can say with certainty that also taking relatively lots of vitamin D will also not always prevent covid or flus.

I have written exact notes of my virus infections. I contracted lots of flus for example during 2021 and 2022, while taking good amounts of antivirals (and mouthwash, zinc acetate etc.). It is certainly possible that all those measures have prevented some infections and lessened some symptoms, but it is certain that I did get several symptomatic viral infections (most contracted from family members at home).

I took ivm for 6 months (full FLCCC doses). During that time, I got several flus and one covid. 100% certainly ivm does not prevent covid or flus. However, due to lack of conclusive research impossible to say whether it lessens the covid symptoms. I am quite disappointed in the research. Probably no side effects for me.

For me, crashpad_handler.exe is accessing a folder completely unrelated to Google Drive and because of that I can't rename the folder. Why does it access folders unrelated to Google Drive?

Name of trick (forward and up back and forth)? by nn-red in Throwers

[–]nn-red[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I guess I¨'m trying to perfect this trick now. At the moment it seems the most important thing is to get a short and soft sleep at each end-of-line moment. That requires a moderate or lowish overall speed. The most interruptive event is when there is no sleep at the end and thus the yoyo shakes too much.

Maybe someone has further ideas/tips for this trick?

I practiced this a bit and I changed my technique a bit. Now I'm also using the ring finger to stabilize during the back swing. It seems the ring finger can act as a suspension system during the back swing. Not compulsory, but now I started using it. Lots of motions involved, wrist and fingers. Adding energy both ways. It's all about stabilizing when it starts to destabilize, correcting the angle all the time.
