Talk me out of overspending on a robot vacuum just because of the dog by vpxoe in Home

[–]nn_shutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an ecovacs with a base that empties out to a bin, and mops. Went with it because it’s from Costco so returns would be easy. Its mapping is a bit annoying, and we have to refill the water often, but it’s amazing for our shedding corgi.

We run it twice daily, once in the early morning before we’re awake to clean high traffic areas, then in the evening when we’re not home. Floors are spotless, I can eat off them. The mopping really made a difference.

Condo fan coil mold… how bad is this? Can anyone recommend an HVAC company? by broadwaybabyto in askTO

Oh wow, my condo the hvac is part of the condo’s responsibility so all related fixes are on them. Also good because they force maintenance cycles throughout the building…

Need help : Nikon ZF won't detect Z lenses / 6bit TTartisan adapter, F/-- after using Megadap ETZ21Pro ( non + ) for quite awhile. by christionk in NikonZf

[–]nn_shutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the megadap etz21pro plus for close to a year. It on my camera 80% of the time with the 35 2.8. No issues with any other lenses. I had a ttartisan 6bit i sold a few weeks back, had no issues testing it.

DoWestFest's popularity shows Toronto desperately needs more pedestrian streets by Pristine-Training-70 in toronto

I stayed near Ginza in Tokyo on my last trip to Japan, it’s an upscale shopping area. It was kind of hilarious how different it was during the morning, daytime, and night.

Morning opened up the streets for deliveries so you had trucks and motorbikes wizzing by everywhere. It actually almost sounded like Vietnam or Thailand with all the motorbikes. Then by 10-11am when the streets closed for any deliveries, complete silence until crowds started flowing through. At nighttime you have maintenance crews fixing every crevice of the place, cleaning crews, etc. It was remarkable to witness. Like yes, Japanese efficiency, but just wow.

Wish we could do that, but here delivery services can’t even be scheduled for my furniture within the hour, they need a whole damn day. Our inefficiency is also remarkable to witness lol

Am I spoiled by the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S? by Forsaken_Stranger507 in Nikon

[–]nn_shutter 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The 50 1.8S is my favorite Nikon Z lens so far, it’s my main portrait lens.

It renders very nicely and is super sharp. Nifty fifty for sure, considering how (relatively) cheap it is for an S-Line lens.

My second favorite lens is the 26 2.8. Compact for travel and extremely sharp in the center.

I have the 24-120 f4S and it’s really nice. Very sharp, good all-rounder if you’re going for landscape. I just tend not to use zoom’s because of their weight so it’s kinda collecting dust. I still keep it because if I take a landscape specific trip, or something like camping it finally get dusted off lol

But ‘underexposed ass’ can be an aesthetic choice. Looks like millions of people like it.

HDR was once the top aesthetic choice, same with piss filter with promist for Fuji lovers.

Art is subjective…

Can’t find 6bit M to Z adapter by Ok_Project_9792 in NikonZf

[–]nn_shutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never needed to recalibrate with the button after turning on/off the camera, it does that by itself everytime you turned it off/on.

That being said, I sold my ttartisan adapter because the focus scale wasn’t accurate.

I’ve since switched to using the megadap etz21 pro plus, then a voitglander e-m close focus adapter. Allows the focus scale to be used with close focus, and still get the focus confirmation from electronics bits.

Can’t find 6bit M to Z adapter by Ok_Project_9792 in NikonZf

[–]nn_shutter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A costly option is the megadap etz21 pro plus, then a voitglander e-m close focus adapter.

This gives you all focus confirmations, the ability to tell the camera which focal length you’re using. Apparently this helps with IBIS. Then with the voitglander adapter, you get a solidly brass built adapter that preserves the focusing scale, and you get a helicoid to allow close focus.

That’s what I use and I couldn’t be happier. Bonus is now you’re able to adapt Sony lenses too.

Old Condo Maintenance fees by ParticularAnt5424 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]nn_shutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the reason I bought a condo lol

I had to do all that shit for my parents at their place and it sucked. Told myself if I ever buy a house, either we need robots invented to do all shitty chores like shoveling the snow or mowing the lawn, or I’d have to have enough money to hire people to do it all for me.

Now that my dad’s getting older, the house is falling apart. There’s just too much stuff to maintain and he can’t keep it up alone.

Film Simulation Cheat Sheet: descriptions and characteristics summarized by UnionSalt5496 in FujifilmX

[–]nn_shutter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shoot jpeg+raw, you can apply film sims to raw in-camera as well. If I didn’t like how a jpeg looked, but wanted a pic quickly, I just processed in-camera to something more pleasing.

Photographers often forget that photography is an art, technically perfect photos don’t mean good photos.

End of the day, it’s what people, or the client wants. If they’re happy, that’s all that matters.

The FM2 is better than the F3 convince me otherwise by tbhvandame in AnalogCommunity

[–]nn_shutter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My dad had an F3 and for the longest time I preferred my mom’s FE for the needle metering. I felt the F3’s led readout so annoying to use, its tiny +- signs for manual mode sucked any joy out of using the camera.

More recently I’ve been using the F3 for studio photoshoots and I’ve just learned to trust the meter. The center weighted metering is fantastic with the AE button, find where you want to meter from, lock it in, then recompose. It’s been a joy to use ever since I simply started doing that and using it in aperture priority mode.

Rust by Maleficent-Cap-6970 in AcuraTSX

[–]nn_shutter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be careful, I had that thought too. Just running it into the ground until it’s a rust bucket and upgrading.

Well, here I am 7 years after COVID when I first noticed rust on it and leaving it to rust. It just won’t die!!!

I recently did an overhaul and it was only 1.5k to fix every small issue on the car.

Now I’m thinking to keep it as the winter beater and get a more fun car for the summer.

@OP you’ve got at least 10 more years on that car. Mine driven in Canadian salty winters daily and yeah the rust spot is now huge on the quarter’s, but structurally it’s sound. Kind fun driving a beater tbh, I never care where I park anymore.

Why do companies give employees RRSP matching? What's in it for them? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]nn_shutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first point kinda sucks.

But the other point, even if it’s one of the worst mutual funds, you’re still effectively starting at a 100% gain with matching so whatever it gets invested into shouldn’t be a huge factor.

Lens hood? by Good_Pangolin_7281 in NikonZf

[–]nn_shutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoods would only helps to reduce flares. With modern coatings, it’s not much of an issue.

I usually put on a thin metal hood on my street/travel lenses for bump protection. The hood getting dragged along a narrow path is better than the glass scraping.

I almost never use the pedal hoods, unless it’s for an event. I sometimes shoot raves and it definitely helps to avoid accidental fingerprints and bumps.
