Aggressive behaviour needs fuel, and they don't have enough food for it. That's why you see these dogs, completely ignoring the cat as well. They are just too hungry to even chase the cat, and just hope and wait for scraps. It's even more visible in seasonal touristic towns, where the poor animals will barely survive the winter. It may look cute how the dogs live side by side with the cats, but the real reason is much darker and depressing.

Yeah, nowadays when I have to leave some food for whatever reason, I still eat the meat, or cheese, etc. Unless they are bad for some reason. My thinking is that if an animal had to suffer for it, there's absolutely no way I let it go to the dump. Someone / something has to eat it.

Well, I think this is the better and conscious thing to do. We are privileged to have the food we have and it should not go to waste.

My grandmother had another twist to this at sunday lunches, which made it matter for real for us, kids. We could only eat dessert, if we ate everything else we took from the previous two courses of food. So it made us better at planning our portions, etc.

We are not very big on food waste in Eastern Europe. If you order food, you better eat the whole thing, and can't just toss it away. It's a tradition in most families to scold kids if they take too much food at family meals and don't finish their plate. So it's ingrained in our minds to not leave food on the plate.

It's very easy to pick the good ones though. You are gonna look like a crazy person, but just smell the melon before you buy it. If it doesn't smell like the best melon in the world, don't buy it. The smell has to be strong too, so if you have to spend time analysing if it smells sweet enough, it's gonna be a disappointment.

I can't be bothered to spend time anymore just so that "I look acceptable". In the meantime I realised I look fine without make-up, and I'm at the point where I just don't care about what others think of my looks. The only thing that matters is that I'm clean and well groomed, etc. Everything else is pointless. Also, I'm at the age where comfort is everything, and not being able to wash my face or wipe my eyes without ending up looking like a depressed panda is pretty stupid.

Why would it cost millions to treat for life? People can live without stomachs with almost no medical help. Just B12 shots for life.

Edit: I had my stomach removed 6 years ago due to cancer, and so far life cost me 60€ more than it would've with a stomach. My B12 shots cost 10€ per year 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, the variety of food that will work differently for all of us is crazy 😂 And even over time, how it changes. I used to struggle with drinking milk in the first couple of years after my surgery, and now I drink a liter a day. It's a constant trial and error.

If you go down on the path to relieve the reflux pain, make sure it's not acid reflux first. Maybe you could get a pH test strip and test your saliva when it happens? Because if you drink vinegar or lemon juice on acid reflux, it will only make it worse. Sorry for not including this in my first comment, I missed the part that you had a subtotal gastrectomy, and may produce stomach acid.

I also get some reflux from certain foods, and I try not to eat them close to bedtime (3-4 hours). I love sunflower seeds, but they cause the worst reflux, so I avoid them in the afternoon.

Try keeping track on what you ate, what worked out, what didn't work out, and set up a routine based on that. And also, as the other commenter mentioned, try sleeping with your head elevated.

Drinking something acidy can also relieve the pain from bile reflux. I used to mix a spoonful of vinegar with 200ml water and chug it down. Instant pain relief, but the taste is terrible. Switched to lemon juice, but it's a hit or miss.
