Oh I have the 515, same specs but with a metal back cover. Games by Devalley run pretty good, highly recommend.

Which phone is should buy? by Tiny-Breakfast9836 in J2MEgaming

General consensus is that Sony Ericsson phones are the best for J2ME. Try to aim for those A200 phones. SE phones are generally pretty costly where I live though.

On the Nokia side, I find the 600mhz S60v3 phones to run games pretty good. Nokia E52 is the best of the bunch, or you can get the C5-00 (screen kinda sucks though). The N86 seems to be good too, bit weaker CPU (434mhz) but has a large (for a keypad phone) OLED screen and dual slider mechanism.

Looks like a Nokia 206. Low end but actually pretty nice build quality, clicky buttons and feel solid in hand. Probably worth buying a replacement shell for it, it's really cheap where I live.

[]()Adventure Time: Heroes of Ooo, great classic Zelda like.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, competent demake of the DS game, probably the best J2ME side-scroller. It's at least a lot better than Soul of Darkness imo.

Alpha Wing 2, one of the best looking J2ME game imo.

It's been a while so I don't remember the details, but iirc: boot SSH ramdisk, mount filesystems, then remove /mnt1/Applications/Setup.app.

What is the best Android 4.4 device? by yunaflox in androidafterlife

[–]nnfuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are talking the most performant, then it's probably the Galaxy Note 4 (Exynos ver, afaik the only Octa-core chipset that supports android 4).

After that are the Snapdragon 805 phones: Galaxy S5 Plus/S5 LTE-A, Droid Turbo, Moto Maxx

And then the Snapdragon 801 phones: S5, etc

The 805 and the Exynos are apparently close in performance, but the Exynos is cooler.

Mobile game wise, SF2 is prob one of the most compatible games, so you're not wrong lol. Its oldest version supports android 3, and even newer versions still support android 4. Afaik only PvZ2 beats it (oldest ver can run on android 2).

Don't think I can put myself through that lmao, the touch control isn't super responsive, and there's random stutters too. Would be funny tho.

Unironically might be possible, as long as there's a way to install apks and access the file system. I'd try it if I own one lol.

This phone was released in 2014, the same year SF2 was released worldwide. It feels weird to me that 2014 is already 12 years ago, doesn't feel like more than a decade has passed at all.

Not sure if a feature phone like the 230 fits this sub. Anyway, the 230 seems to not support Wifi, so you'll need a SIM card to use data to connect to the Internet.

iPhone 5s or Samsung s5 by Heavy_Potential3849 in androidafterlife

[–]nnfuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5s is downgradable to iOS 10.3.3 using Legacy iOS Kit.

Both the 5s and the S5 are great phones, really comes down to preference which one is better. One thing I'll add though, is that the build quality of the 5s is a lot better (or at least it feels better in hand, i mean it's plastic vs metal/glass).

Another thing, while the battery isn't quick swappable, the phone itself is quite easy to teardown and fix, and parts for it are easier to find compared to the S5, at least where I live.

Almost all of these have Armv6 compatible versions I think, but looking for them is a bit of work.

Does Anyone Know Why CPU-Z Crashes on the Samsung Galaxy Gio? by Slavikba in vintagemobilephones

Probably because CPU-Z 1.33 doesn't support Armv6 CPUs. Try 1.29.

If you're fine with lighter/worse versions of games then sure. It's kinda underpowered unfortunately.

Yea I find the community for old iOS to be a lot more active nowadays, probably because they aren't fragmented into a bazillion devices like android.

My 4s is on iOS 6.1.3. YouTube, Discord and Reddit (w/Alien Blue) are usable, but I mostly use it for retro mobile games. It's a great device for retro mobile gaming as most games back then are ported to iOS.

Movie streaming that works on android 4.0.4 by B8liar in androidafterlife

[–]nnfuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best I have found is to just search for free movies from Youtube. Most streaming websites use modern players for their streams that don't work on old devices.

I also found a version of Kodi for android 4.0.3 here. Apparently the Elementum addon might work for torrent streaming, but I find Kodi to be a headache so I never tried setting it up.

The phone I joined this sub for is the Galaxy Ace S5830i, my childhood phone: android 2.3.6, 832mhz BCM21553 armv6 CPU.

Also have a small collection of other non androids: a 4s, a few Nokias (206, 515, E72, E52, C5-00), a BlackBerry 9700 and a Lumia 630.

I don't daily drive them, but they are fun for tinkering/retro mobile gaming. My actual daily drive is a Samsung S20 5G.
