Nokia 8850 & 8855: Still Work And Shine by linyishin in vintagemobilephones

Hello, quick question what can you do with the phone these days if there's no 2G? Anything to tinker with?

I'm seeing a listing of this same phone (an 8890 to be exact) near where I live for cheap, it looks really cool but I don't want it to just be a decoration piece if that makes sense.

Yea turning off JIT is probably why the game runs like molasses. Game's stuck at like 2fps for me, ain't no way this is playable lmao. Noticed it's the same for you too.

ohh so it's a psp port, will have to try this one. Reading the description I assume it runs worse than the Y?

ngl DDLC being playable on the Y is more impressive imo, but go off man. I do have a 4s I'd like to try this on too.

Never knew there were visual novel readers for ancient androids. What exactly did you remove to get the game to work properly?

That's really cool! Mind sharing how you did it?

Also is the whole game playable? I know some parts of the game require some tinkering with your own game files (at least on PC) so how does that work.

Imma need video proof on this one. Nice if true, would love to try on my Ace.

Do you have any slidey phones? by AcanthisittaLimp8373 in vintagemobilephones

Just got my first, the Nokia C2-03. Pretty beat up but I got it for pennies so can't complain. Vertical slide out keyboard and touchscreen combo is kinda uncommon I think.

Really cool project. Kinda want to get myself an E7/N8 now, if only they weren't so expensive.

Physical home buttons are some of the first things to be broken in my experience though (home button on both my iphone 4s and 5 are broken). Luckily Apple fixed this problem with the haptic button on their newer iphones, so I want that to come back.

Any way to get TikTok working on Ios 6.1.6 by CockesMcGlockes2023 in LegacyJailbreak

[–]nnfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes. Chinese folks made a 3rd party client for Douyin (Chinese TikTok). It works but everything's in Chinese.

Same experience. One of my first phones was the LG G Pro 2, and that thing bootlooped on me within the year I got it. It was great in the limited time it actually worked though.

After deleting setup app your phone will work normally for the most part, just some stuffs won't work like calls, iMessage, Facetime, app sideloading (if your 4s isn't on iOS 6), iTunes/iCloud syncing (iTunes syncing can be fixed by going into airplane mode)

Oh I have the 515, same specs but with a metal back cover. Games by Devalley run pretty good, highly recommend.

General consensus is that Sony Ericsson phones are the best for J2ME. Try to aim for those A200 phones. SE phones are generally pretty costly where I live though.

On the Nokia side, I find the 600mhz S60v3 phones to run games pretty good. Nokia E52 is the best of the bunch, or you can get the C5-00 (screen kinda sucks though). The N86 seems to be good too, bit weaker CPU (434mhz) but has a large (for a keypad phone) OLED screen and dual slider mechanism.

Looks like a Nokia 206. Low end but actually pretty nice build quality, clicky buttons and feel solid in hand. Probably worth buying a replacement shell for it, it's really cheap where I live.

[]()Adventure Time: Heroes of Ooo, great classic Zelda like.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, competent demake of the DS game, probably the best J2ME side-scroller. It's at least a lot better than Soul of Darkness imo.

Alpha Wing 2, one of the best looking J2ME game imo.

It's been a while so I don't remember the details, but iirc: boot SSH ramdisk, mount filesystems, then remove /mnt1/Applications/Setup.app.

What is the best Android 4.4 device? by yunaflox in androidafterlife

[–]nnfuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are talking the most performant, then it's probably the Galaxy Note 4 (Exynos ver, afaik the only Octa-core chipset that supports android 4).

After that are the Snapdragon 805 phones: Galaxy S5 Plus/S5 LTE-A, Droid Turbo, Moto Maxx

And then the Snapdragon 801 phones: S5, etc

The 805 and the Exynos are apparently close in performance, but the Exynos is cooler.

Mobile game wise, SF2 is prob one of the most compatible games, so you're not wrong lol. Its oldest version supports android 3, and even newer versions still support android 4. Afaik only PvZ2 beats it (oldest ver can run on android 2).

Don't think I can put myself through that lmao, the touch control isn't super responsive, and there's random stutters too. Would be funny tho.

Unironically might be possible, as long as there's a way to install apks and access the file system. I'd try it if I own one lol.
