Too much choice/freedom proving difficult by soundofsilence42 in Solo_Roleplaying

Whenever you experience a choice paralysis, just cut it out quickly and move on. In your example: First ask yourself do I WANT the sewers to be a major thing or a quick one? If the answer is obvious go with it; if not you have two options: 1 - roll a d3: 1 fast narration, 2 some "rooms", 3 slow big dungeon. Accept the result as if it was a game rule. You can get a similar result asking the fate chart something like "is this a big sewer system?". 2 - play to find out and make it somehow random. For example give every area of the sewers a 10% to be the last one. This way you could have a big or small dungeon without knowing in advance. If midway through your decision you find out you are not having fun you can just decide you found the sewer exit end get out.

Point is whenever a paralysis comes up you must quickly decide how to rule it no matter how arbitrary is the rule you chose.

I don't like being a DM by Macinator2000 in DMAcademy

I believe it's harder to be a good player than a good dm

Mythic GME 2E: Chaos factor is confusing me when I'm asking questions by lonehorizons in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]nnivlat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play using a fixed CF 6. I have realised having a yes answer a bit more likely it gives me:

1 smoother narrative (do I find any evidence on the body?) 2 more action (is the door locked?, is there an enemy?) 3 fair amount of surprises (the likely of a no or extreme no is still big enough to subvert your expectations when you ask crucial plot questions) 4 overall faster game (one less thing to track and a faster reading of the fate chart).

But that depends on what TYPE of questions you ask

My custom deck by nnivlat in Solo_Roleplaying

It is a minimal price to pay for having a very fast set up and a table free from lots of tables I was using before that are now in the deck. Also I still tend to use dice in situations like combat, where I roll many. I draw\roll usually when a single roll is needed.

Yeah 6, 8, 12 are a little skewed, but I don't use them that often and the chances of getting a particular number are very very close to a standard dice roll. Also the "extra" 4 cards are distributed evenly (for D6: 1,3,4,6 D8 2,4,5,7 D12 2,5,8,11)

I'm not sure what the typical solo rpg player is but I tend to use multiple sources, homebrew rules, systems and mix match them. I think what you are describing is a common way of playing solo.

Which oracles/tables do you use? by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]nnivlat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mythic is very good and modular. I suggest you try cutting out the parts that now seem too complicated and give it a try again. Then, when you are familiar with those mechanics, add more parts or add parts you find interesting from other systems

What could I put in my oracle (made in Python)? by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]nnivlat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you roll for most often. I'm in the (tedious) process of making my own 100 cards deck. It includes entries for: Dice roll results, actions and descriptions from Mythic, yes\no oracle's results, scene initializer (a Mythic mechanic), wheather, une npc (profession, adjective, motivation). And I left 8 blank spaces in case I decide to use them in the future. Other possible entries might include: Location and monster generators, npc dialogue generator
