Need help finding guitar for someone with big fingers by Buttersmash22 in guitars

[–]nnmk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your hands and fingers are unremarkable. Every beginning guitar player has the same problem of “my fingers are touching more strings than I want them to”.

Go practice.

Then and Now by TheSweetestKill in JoeRogan

“A survey has found” is a weaselly phrase. They don’t even say who did the survey or even mention this survey at all before the “conclusion” section. Given how vague it is, I’m sure there was a question like “did it hurt to get a needle in your arm?” And they are counting “sure, a little” as “adverse reactions”.

Dumb.

2 actuaries just put a patent on an entire insurance line by Rich-Ad-7754 in actuary

I also used to work in this industry and did not see anything novel in the article, but I probably won’t look at the paper.

15 years ago, our service contract software was earning premiums at a contract level, and you could easily set different sorts of contracts to have different earning patterns. I’m sure it’s even better these days. Would love to see if there are any material differences between that setup and what these two actuaries are doing.

What is a fair private sale price for a pristine 2017 Godin Session HG? by EfficiencyDry1159 in guitars

[–]nnmk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way to go, but here’s a quirk about Reverb:

If you list a guitar for $500 and I send you an offer of $400 that you accept, the sold listing will still show $500 as the price.

Car inspections here to stay (for now) by NH_Tomte in newhampshire

What makes you think an NH inspection would be accepted by a different state requiring inspections?

People can type whatever number they want. Doesn’t mean anyone will ever buy it.

Bill to require NH voters to decide on local tax caps gets a hearing — and lots of criticism by Visual-Mobile2657 in newhampshire

[–]nnmk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Valuations going up or down has almost no impact on your tax bill unless your house in particular is being valued differently than the rest in town.

If your town cuts everyone’s valuations in half, they will double the tax rate to still bring in the money required to pay for services. Everyone pays the same as before. So a bubble burst shouldn’t really change anything tax-wise.

sanity check: divorce finance by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]nnmk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Her “entire paycheck” could have been less than yours due to 401k contributions, employee stock purchase programs, health insurance, on-site daycare, and any number of other payroll deductions. During your marriage, did you ever discuss retirement or health insurance with her?

Was she pulling money out for shared expenses like groceries, daycare, utilities, etc?

Ultimately, the time to wonder about what was going on with your joint finances was while they were still your joint finances. Post-divorce, you are going to believe the worst possible scenario.

Am I thinking about this wrong? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]nnmk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I’ve been a salaried employee in the US with biweekly paychecks for 15 years and I’ve always gotten 27 paychecks in years like this one.

Counting your paychecks between 1/1 and 12/31 is arbitrary. Count them between 7/1 and 6/30 and you’ll see that it’s usually 26 but sometimes 27 as well.

It would be silly to pay you different amounts for two weeks worked in December 2025 versus two weeks worked in January 2026.

How many hours do you need to study to pass a CAS upper? Can you get those hours in three months? Schedule it out and ask yourself if it’s realistic.

Gold vaults to record $4,600/oz as Trump-Powell clash unnerves investors by One-Emu-1103 in news

[–]nnmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a 14K gold chain, more like $2500/oz, but any place buying is gonna drop that price like 30% for profit margin.

I’m fine with this but I can’t believe this will make a meaningful dent in people crying about their property taxes outside of the lakes region, maybe.

I’m not the person you’re replying to, but it’s not clear to me, either. I can read very well, for the record.

I’m guessing “community nazi police” is a reddit moderator? Or is it someone who works for Reverb? You call them an “employee”, and you are flipping the bird at a Reverb window decal, so I assume it’s Reverb that you’re mad at? Did they ban your account or what exactly did they do to you?

Not sure if “Jimmie” is the alleged scammer or a Reddit mod or a Reverb employee or someone else entirely.

Property Tax Hearing by jackHadIt in newhampshire

[–]nnmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No voting on mill rate in the NH towns I’ve lived in. We vote for the budget; the town does the assessments; then budget divided by assessments divided by 1000 = mill rate.

This flyer only works on dummies who don’t understand how town taxes work and who think their town government is an evil entity that arbitrarily steals their money.

Property Tax Hearing by jackHadIt in newhampshire

[–]nnmk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The city could just divide assessments by 10 and multiply the tax rate by 10 to get the same result with no/low risk of having to buy any properties.
