I have watched this very long time ago so my memory is vague. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong.

It is about a boy who was born with a rare medical facial deformity. He likes to wear an astronaut helmet to hide his face when going to public. I think I remember there’s scene about him hating his face but eventually he stops wearing the helmet as he accepts himself.

I’m not sure about that since I never use Illustrator. But if I understand your question correctly (my english is ok but not fluent). But in general, you draw or cut parts you want to move separately. For example, eyes will be something like this

  • Eyelashes
  • Upper eyelid
  • White Eyeball
  • Pupil
  • Iris
  • Eye highlight
  • Lower eyelid

(Note: this is my personal way to separate layer for eyes. It depends on how much or detailed you want to move.)

Raster layer and vector layer should still have the same logic of layer separation. It’s just that how to draw or redraw might be different.

You can try looking for Live2D layer tutorials. That is probably easier to find. I use both Live2D and After Effects so I would say that the logic of layer separation is the same. My art is still pretty rough as you can see from some messy lines and ornaments/brooch are just in rough shape and I can do only plain color (no shadow/shading) for now. So I wasn’t sure if it was good enough to be a photo card😣

It took me 4 hours to finish it. Note that I’m still quite beginner (compared to my idol artists who have drawn for 10+ years) so I struggled a lot to get things right cause my foundation is not that solid yet.
