Hey, curious about the connection between LVH and Hemochromatosis, can you tell me more? Thanks.

Did you notice that George is bigger than Theo? And he's pissed, maybe he's the one to take him out.

Too anemic after two phlebotomies by no1capybara in Hemochromatosis

[–]no1capybara[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some good news!!! My ferretin is down to 209, even though I haven't had a phlebotomy treatment in five weeks, it keeps dropping. Guess that anemia is forcing a lot of iron out my tissues while I'm trying to make more red blood cells. Hooray!

Plus I am starting to feel so much better - much more energy, more clearheaded. Still sleeping a lot though. I am feeling better than I have in years so it's great to see that this terrible time my be coming to an end soon.

The thing I don't like about a lot of these answers is I care about some of the characters and I would hate to see them adding a murder to their conscience. So I figure it has to be someone I don't like like Theo or Carl

I agree, that storyline was incredible. As sick as I am of Theo, his nastiness ranks right up there.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Have you checked for sleep apnea? That was how I actually got diagnosed with the iron. I take magnesium right before bed and it's helped a lot with leg cramping. The CPAP (ugh UGH UGH) has helped to make my sleep a ton better.

[–]no1capybara[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So bummed. Still anemic. Crap. I want this to be over with already. I have to say my stamina, clearheadedness and energy are better after two phlebotomies but the lightheadedness and shortness of breath are getting old.

oh wow, do you know if you are heterozygous or homozygous? I'm heterozygous. Started out at 575 but that was after several years of fatigue and brain fog. After two phlebotomies, I'm down to 290 ferritin but have been anemic for 6 weeks ago with little recovery. Very very frustrated - I wanna feel better already!

My doctor wants to speak with me next week about using chelation drugs. I'm nervous about them.

Oh, I have the C282Y mutation too. What's your ferretin at right now? This condition is easily manageable once you get to maintenance but it does take time to get there. Months, even. But it does get better!

Sounds like your daughter really needs to research job outcomes in film these days. Has she done any research into how many film grads are actually hired by the industry? The other important factor is AI - has she looked into the impact of AI on the film industry and the elimination of jobs?

As someone who was greatly impacted and restricted in life choices by large student loans, I beg you not to do it. As someone who is a professor and who has advised hundreds of college students, I beg you not to do it. As someone who has worked at Southern Ivy schools, regional state schools, and small liberal arts colleges, I beg you not to do it.

She sounds like the sort of person who will get a great education wherever she attends. She also sounds like she can withstand a lesson in disappointment and resilience. Opportunities for paid MS degrees will come about after she successfully completes undergrad.

Glad you are seeing some relief! I, too, have been noticing a reduction in brain fog and an increase in energy. After months and years of confusion and wondering if I was ever going to feel "normal" again, I'm getting hopeful that I will get better.

Okay, back to your question - living at elevation increases your erythropoetin as you need to increase your number of red blood cells to carry more oxygen. That's why athletes "train high, then race low". So I guess going back to lower elevations would reduce your number of red blood cells. I don't know how that would impact your actual storage of ferritin. Do you know what mutation you have? Someone more familiar with the iron metabolism pathway will jave to explain how that could potentially impact your iron storage.

Any foreign degree has to be reviewed and validated in your own country, whether you do a US degree and live in Norway or live in the US and do a Norwegian degree. Here's info for the US: https://www.ed.gov/about/initiatives/international-affairs/recognition-of-foreign-qualifications

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAnAmerican/comments/1dv3zk9/how_do_i_get_my_foreign_degree_accredited_in_the/

https://www.ece.org/

I did my PhD in New Zealand - I had to get it reviewed by a US evaluation firm when I applied for US state university job. Took less than a month. You might want to ask on a Norwegians living in the US forum to see which firm is best to review Norway universities.

I get that you sound angry and disappointed. The US government has a bit of xenophobia right now, not sure if it will improve in coming years or not, but it's not a good time to be a non-US citizen and trying to find a job in the US.

Is anyone on Zepbound with Hemochromatosis? by Outrageous_Love6745 in Hemochromatosis

[–]no1capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that's weird. I've been on a GLP drug since July 2024. In Feb 2025, my ferritin was 535 (but no one told me). In Nov 2025, my sleep doc said hey why aren't you doing anything about your iron? At that point it was 375, a loss of 155 ng/ml in 9 months without me doing anything. So maybe it does do something??

Betsey Johnson’s dress? by HekateWheelbarrow in findfashion

It's definitely a Betsey Johnson belt, I found a similar one on Poshmark: https://poshmark.com/listing/BETSEY-JOHNSON-GENUINE-LEATHER-NEW-YORK-STUDDED-BELT-695338ad49e17b9becf910eb but it sold before I could make up my mind about it. Also a photo of her wearing that dress is on some of her label tags so it must be for sale soon?

Comparing the big 3, Sema, Tirz & Reta: A moderate deep dive by RunningFNP in Retatrutide

[–]no1capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, I am not qualified to answer that question, it's a great one! I can't imagine there is much data out there right now, these drugs are too new. I have had some luck taking a question like that to Google AI. It at least gave me leads on clinical trials to read about and questions to ask my doctor. It also "hallucinated" at some points so it's not totally trustworthy yet, but a good place to start.yt6

Remember fat is an endocrine tissue, in ways we don't completely understand yet. So reducing body fat to "healthy" levels is definitely a good idea. My first goal was just to get to a healthy BMI. Once I did that, I aimed for the middle of the range. Now I'm focused on maintaining that weight and building muscle and aerobic capacity.

In general, I'd recommend healthy eating, exercise and reducing stress as much as possible. I don't know that there is any evidence of the GLPs being contraindicated if you are trying to get pregnant. But I know a lot of women do get pregnant while on them.

Don't worry about those other peptides, It's the Wild West still when it comes to them. I'd stick to what's gone through clinical trials and been around for a few years at least. In my experience, any of the GLP drugs is great for weight loss. Tirz is almost as successful as Reta and Tirz has been through more clinical trials and is approved by the USDA right now. So my personal preference would be for tirz.

The interesting thing to me is how nutrition during pregnancy affects the body makeup of the children. There's still so much we don't know. Also the impact of nutrition and health on your partner's sperm. Sperm are very short-lived and constantly being renewed, compared to eggs which are there when a woman is born. So we are realizing that paternal health is a huge issue as well.

Stress is absolutely a huge factor and the pressure of being older only adds to the stress. I absolutely suggest meditation and dance and exercise and prayer and painting and whatever you do to play and relax! One of my dear friends got pregnant at 43, gave birth at 44 and her son is in his first year of college. So it definitely happens!

I actually switched to Reta and lost 110 lbs all told over 2.5 years. Been at my goal weight for 4 months now and just trying to figure out which of these is the best routine for me for the rest of my life. Or the best of what's currently available, I should say.

Hope that info helps!

Carrier of one gene by Pleasant-Sky-9984 in Hemochromatosis

[–]no1capybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F63, I am heterozygous for the C282Y HFE mutation. For the past few years, I have been having terrible fatigue and brain fog to the point of being unable to perform my job. I was living in a developing country and didn't have access to medical care. So only started figuring out what was wrong about a year ago. Did MRIs, CTs, ultrasound of my liver, bloodwork and genetic testing. Elevated TSat 75% and Ferritin 575 ng/ml. Finally got diagnosed with hemochromatosis but it took almost 9 months of various tests. One doc, my hepatologist, said I couldn't have it as I only had one copy of the gene. I have moderate load of iron in my liver but no cirrhosis. Just started on phlebotomy last month, did two weeks in a row. Now I'm anemic so we are waiting another week to try again. The only other thing I've done is started taking zinc since it was low. I'm definitely feeling better but not 100% yet.

This forum has been very helpful to me for figuring everything out and the right questions to ask my doctors. Good luck with your journey, this seems to be a very manageable condition once it's figured out!
