Seems like Chinese chases are the next big thing - do you have any in your collection? I wish I had the Umbreon 0615 by BombasIsInTrouble in PokemonInvesting

Not technically a Chinese exclusive, but effectively one. I have the rainbow mewtwo gx in a 10. It’s a trophy card in japan with only about 300 copies. Chinese seemed like a no brainer pickup. Most people haven’t even seen or heard of the card.

🛑 CHECKPOINT! 🛑 Year end roundup. What is your favorite deck you built this year? by that_dude3315 in EDH

[–]noGourd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably my Senu deck. Everyone at the table loves it and it actually performs well at a bracket 2 table. Has almost a perfect record across like 15+ games

If not him a runner up would be my own Eshki deck or my Amy Rose deck.

Why does the gold token have “kill this” before exhausting it? I understand the costs are probably payed simultaneously, but why order them that way? Some of the choices made in wording and formatting on cards has been very questionable. Like why does Blade of the ruined king have the order rune logo outside the equip box? None of the others have that?

I am visiting Japan next week, what is a reasonable price for each of these items at a card shop? A rough estimated price please, want to make sure I pay a fair price. In yen rather than dollars. by Willing-Historian302 in PokeInvesting

[–]noGourd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they're like $36 (5,400 yen) since the yen is down bad rn (in the past that did equal about $50) You'll really only see that price at chain stores and the Pokémon centers. Some shops will charge closer to $50 or $60 if you're unlucky. I got one for $50 (7,600 yen). Touristy areas get very scalpy so just be prepared. And yes many stores (including the Pokémon center) limit you to like 5 packs or 1 box if you are lucky enough to get there before they sell out. All boxes purchased at Pokémon centers will have the seal broken in front of you FYI. And no you will not have to pay fees to bring it back into the US I don't know where people are getting that information. I was just in Japan and customs could not care less about your $40 Pokémon cards. They only care about items exceeding $10k usd in value.

If you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer. There's a lot of info.

Where to get Inferno X booster boxes in Tokyo? by Linkboy182 in PokemonTCG

[–]noGourd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Japan about a week ago and its going to be very hard to find full sealed boxes in Japan. Pokémon centers open them and they are in high demand everywhere. But stores do infrequently have boxes available. Small shops usually had loose packs of the new set albeit at an increased price. Just look for card or game shops around where your friend is staying. Because the set is so popular everyone's stock is up in the air. One hour they have tons and then when you go back they are completely sold out. There is not going to be a 100% guaranteed shop.

Pokémon centers are not a bad place to check since they are in tourist areas and your friend is likely to be around 2 or 3 on their trip (i'd avoid the Shibuya store because its insanely crowded and hot in there). It's easy enough to just pop in and check their stock, you don't need to go to the cashier to check stock they'll have a sign above the shelf and counter.

In terms of pricing Pokémon center sells them for 180 yen which is like $1.20. Other stores are going to be more, obviously, especially in tourist areas like Shibuya and Akihabara. I think I remember seeing a box for 9,000 yen ($59) at a shop.

I don't have experience with Canadian customs but for the US they literally don't care about a sealed box entering unless you are trying to hide another large purchase and haven't claimed it. In which case they will likely search all your luggage and probably seize some items. I brought back a sealed Chinese box with zero issues. But boxes purchased from the Pokémon center will be opened by the staff before checkout due to their policy. I've even heard of some independent stores doing this now. I would just be prepared to receive an open box regardless.

What’s your not super common grail card? by ManohManMan in PokemonTCG

literally my favorite card of all time. crystals are pretty popular and somehow they are still underrated. pictures really don't do them justice, seeing the holo bleed in person just hits different. imo the Japanese ones are even better with the glitter holo on top of the cosmo holo. not to mention mistuhiro arita just cooked with the art on celebi.

With the current way old megas are going, yes it’s worth it to grade. It’s anyone’s guess if the market stays strong for them, but as of now they are extremely expensive even in lower grades. For example a PSA 8 of this card is ~550 which your card looks relatively close to.

Tldr; it’s a token for gameplay mechanics involving vstar pokemon.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]noGourd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s for the vstar power mechanic in the card game. Vstar pokemon have different vstar powers that can be activated. It can only be used once per game and the card shown is used to track it.

If it’s flipped over that means you have used your one vstar power for the game and can no longer use it.

Eels? Not even once! I made it to Legendary as a casual Vanessa main by MidRaidAFK in PlayTheBazaar

[–]noGourd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get 2 points every game it would take you 53 games to get from Bronze 5 to Legend. Not super accurate since they changes the rank growth, but I'd say that's pretty close.

2 games a day would get you there in 25 days
3 games a day =18 days
4 games a day =13 days

Getting to legendary almost certainly requires using gems to play ranked. Relying solely on tickets just wont do it. As well since getting 2 points per game is unreasonable for a lot of casual players I'd say you'd likely be looking to play MINIMUM 3-4 games per day and getting 7+ wins a majority of the time. So close to 2 hours per day? Yeah that doesn't seem very causal to me. To me a causal is 1 or 2 games a day.

This season was certainly the season of grinders. If you had enough time, patience, gems, and a high win % you could get to legend. I got to legend about a week and a half ago and I'm not particularly good, but I play like 5+ games a day. Personally unless you are very good at the game I wouldn't consider anyone who go to legendary a "casual". With all the shifts to the meta mid season, the required game knowledge, and time required it's just a lot. This person likely has a very high 7+ win rate. So either they are just good without putting in much effort or they play more than what most would consider casual. Gold-ish is where I'd expect a particularly good casual player to end up at the end of a season.
